Chief Miguel Iglesias
Chief Miguel Iglesias, a retired NYPD Chief, served the department with unwavering dedication for over 30 years. Born in Panama City, Panama, he joined the NYPD in 1991, driven by a desire to protect and serve the people of New York City. He advanced through the ranks throughout his distinguished career, holding key positions from undercover officer to Chief of Internal Affairs. His leadership in fighting corruption and fostering public trust was instrumental in creating a more transparent and accountable police department. After being promoted to Sergeant in 2001, Miguel realized the importance of higher education in advancing his career. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from St. Joseph's College in 2005 and a Master’s in Human Resources Management from Seton Hall University in 2008. These degrees equipped him with the tools to lead effectively and make informed decisions that benefitted the department and the community. His dedication to professional growth and adherence to department policies set him apart as a respected leader. Miguel’s journey in law enforcement began in Brooklyn, where he witnessed rising crime and a decline in safety. Motivated to bring about change, he joined the NYPD in 1991. His leadership potential was evident early on, and by 2005, he was promoted to Lieutenant, overseeing operations within his Precinct. In 2010, his efforts were recognized with a promotion to Captain, where he led initiatives that reduced crime rates in high-crime areas, particularly in the 73rd Precinct. In 2022, Chief Miguel Iglesias NYPD was appointed Chief of Internal Affairs, which allowed him to enforce the highest standards of integrity within the department. His work in this capacity ensured officers followed department policies and procedures, maintaining public confidence in law enforcement. After retiring in 2025, he left behind a legacy of ethical leadership and dedication to service, continuing to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.
