2014 Reference Guide

a note from the Vanstones It always seems hard to believe that it is really time to begin working on the reference guide for the coming year. The sun is still warm and gardeners are still busy in their yards, but we are excited nonetheless to prepare a 2014 edition for you to enjoy. The year has been fast and full and there are some very exciting things to mention as we look back and forward at the same time. As you turn the page you will notice that there are a terrific number of new items for the coming season. There are a couple reasons for this and I think they are good reasons! David and Eunice took in the PPA symposium this year in Vancouver and came back with loads of new varieties that we just must have, so the selection of perennials and grasses has expanded quite nicely. The other major increase is in the selection of annuals that we are now offering. This year marked the beginning of our annual production, and thanks to the great uptake on your part we have chosen to expand this part of the product line to include a broader selection of the brightest and best annuals on the market. We are also pleased to have a modest increase in the flowering shrub collection to include new developments from Proven Winners, Ball Ornamentals, and others. In 2012 we began some trials of some of the new and existing shrubs on our list to verify hardiness and also to attempt a reduction in duplication. Ninebarks and hydrangeas were given particular focus and we have enjoyed watching the performance of these plants throughout this growing season. We look forward to expanding these trials with more plantings this fall and next spring and we will certainly be making some of this information available. The future is bright for our industry and we are excited to be a part of it. There is plenty of talk about the difficulties that we face, and yet there are great opportunities to capture as the public becomes more aware of the benefits of plants in their lives. We need to promote, educate, and support. We truly appreciate each one of you that has shown loyalty and support through this season, and we are excited about the potential of 2014. Sincerely, The Vanstone family and staff September 2013

Innovative products and some of the best genetics available is what we love about the Red Fox collection from Dummen. Red Fox delivers a terrific assortment of those plants that are known and loved, but they work hard to develop top notch colours and textures that raise the bar a little higher. Growers love these collections for their performance and gardeners love the durability and unique collector items available to give them an edge over their neighbors. There are lots of options to choose from under the one banner of Red Fox, and you can find these listed on the 2014 order form and price list.
