BEAN CONTAINER

9

BEAN CONTAINER SET The idea of this jars is really simple. Thinking about receptacles, I went directly to the literaly meaning of the word in the biology slang: ‘‘In botany, the receptacle is the thickened part of a stem from which the flower organs grow. In some accessory fruits, for example the pome and strawberry, the receptacle gives rise to the edible part of the fruit’’ Then I thought about bags, natural bags to be more exactly: organs, nets... beans! We could create a receptacle of little bags as the green beans protects the seeds.

Natural element

CONCEPT EVOLUTION

Inspired in the pod os the beans, this box collects the bottles of shampoo, shower gel, cologne and body lotion. The bottles are also inspired in the rounded seed of the beans

STEM COUCH

13

INTRODUCTION What would happen if we amplify a cell a million times? The shape of those couchs are inspired in the cells which form the stem body of a plant. I was researching about different kinds of modern couchs when I found one produced by Steelcase (picture attached) The concept is a couch surrounding the user as he or she were in a tunnel. Applying this concept, I studied which could be the best shape to host a person, having in mind it has to give confort and a privacy feeling. Steelcase couch >

SOME SKETCHES Shape evolution. Balance problems.

Padding form

The process went through issues such as the problems of ergonomics, form and relationship to the initial object, balance of system and materials. One side was raised to give lightness to the design. To keep it stable, I had to put a camouflaged weight to compensate the angle.

This model was one of the final sketches > before the actual shape of the couch.

17

TABLE With the same concept I developed a really simple table. The heigh is the same as the heigh of the couch to give more confort to the one sitting inside. It is covered by pieces of wood, which protect the soft material inside. To prevent future damages in the top side, a thick glass allow us to leave the objects over it.

DINNERWARE SET

CONCEPT EVOLUTION They were waiting under the ground. Organic forms, each of them different from the other. This concept borned with some dualisms as organic-inorganic, soft-angular, concave-convex. Researching for an structure able to keep this concepts, the geode appeared.

To be able to fire the clay, had been necessary to create an empty volume. Thats is why the bowls have been maden in two parts. < plates and bowls render.

29

TEXTURE The texture is one of the most important things when we are trying to imitate the nature. All the pieces has been covered with different materials after have tried the effects in the basis material, which was clay. Some of the compounds have been: 100% Basis X 3% Chroomoxide Spikkel 1620

SAUCE BOAT GLASSES

CONCEPT EVOLUTION Beauty in the middle of the table. Something brighting keeping a treasure. This pieces were designed inspirated in the calla lily. Zantedeschia aethiopica is the perfect combination between fragility and strength and how somehting able to kill with poison shines like a star. Again the texture makes it more natural. In this case I have use: 100% Basis X 5% Fe2O3 Spikkel 1620

100% Basis X 20% Lepidolite

INSPIRATION

< All the pieces have been treated with an impermeable material to keep the water inside.

THIN SKIN BRICKS

43

CONCEPT EVOLUTION At the moment to create walls or folding screens, what could be better than the permeable membrane of the cells? This pieces were conceive using the structure facilities and the strength of the honeycomb, mixed with the organic shapes of the corals, cells, and horizontal cuts of a vegetable stalks. With different percentage of covered areas, it give us the possibility of combine them to create different grades of light in the room.

< Different ways to finish the pieces.

THICK BRICKS

49

DESCRIPTION When I wanted to design something more strong than the skin convers, this idea was the next step of the skin bricks.

< Although it is a brick, it could have all the used you want.

51

PATTERNS

53

CONCEPT EVOLUTION All the patterns were stracted from other shapes such as bubbles, leaves, seeds... the idea is have a library from we could take shapes to apply in clothes, walls or other objects inside the hotel.

< The different colors show how it could be using different inks and clothes.

An example of a pattern inspirated in the bubbles.
