about me:

there is not one way of making architecture, as there is not one way of creating a singular work of art of any sort, as there is not one universally true philosophical theory. my approach to architectural design is with keen dilligence towards the permanently fluctuating state of its possible future becomings. so far, in all of my works, I’ve chosen to purposefully expand the brief’s thematic and programmatic premises, aiming towards a broader way of intervening within the given prerequisites of their contexts, whether anchored in the framework of reality or not. regardless, diving into answering and overcoming the open ended questions and abstractions of design briefs is, for me, a highly serious motivator led by curiosity and experimentation. I consider this task to be the core from which the pragmatic aspects that define the overall sustainability of my architectural solutions emerge.

an intergenerational center diploma project 2021/2022

The worldwide movement for creating age-inclusive cultural sharing institutions that must conform to the specific needs of multigenerational users reveals how large scale architectural developments can sustainably aid urban growth from a very powerful informal standpoint: the user’s perspective. An effective way of creating architecture that directly aids intergenerational exchanges is building upon the idea of a physical platform for intergenerational interaction, materialized as an openly occupiable flat surface, an environment for clustering beneficial collisions through its livelihood. This is a project that not only adresses the recovery of human contact accross all ages through community oriented architecture, but one that also highlights how deep contextual embedding can transform the experience of specifically chosen parts within a city.

“the chameleon” urban hotel

fourth year university project 2018/2019

When visiting any place, checking into a hotel is synonymous with a short experience of living as an impromptu resident in that particular place. Beyond the sheltered stay, the shelter and its surroundings create steadily forming mental maps and images of newly discovered places, sights and experiences that are synced in our complex neural networks. This hotel was designed to become a strikingly discreet landmark, an in-place background for interpersonal connection, urban discovery, tourism, and business networking. It can be viewed as a physical open-platform environment, as well as a place of retreat and individual expression. A common background that nonchalantly blends within the heart of a densely layered city.

multimedia art hub third year university project 2017/2018

From the very first stages of this project, it was clear that it had to be expressed through a simple gestural intervention. The layering of the existing urban fabric and the placement of the plot of land presented a given cause for reducing any newly built mass to an essential amount. Special care had to be taken regarding the presence of landmarks and points of interest in order to make them feel as motives and key parts of how the solution is integrated into the given place. The final result formed an effervescent public plaza, contoured and defined by a solid, yet accessible building in an uncanny, heterogenous and surprising context.

Digital collages that cumulate and coagulate everything we’ve managed to collect from incursions, observations and interactions within the realm of the Aristotle axis in Thessaloniki, both physical and metaphysical, both concrete and abstract, palpable and immaterial. Depicting construction, deconstruction and reconstruction at all levels from human to edifice and further, they became a visual representation of a much more thorough mental image, abstractions of experiences and feelings, encounters, barriers; in a single word: stimuli. We decided to take specific elements that spoke to us – from there and from somewhere else that could have been there – and in our turn, to speak about them as viscerally as possible, as visually interesting as possible.

nature and space constructions university workshop project (Erasmus) 2019/2020

The purpose of this workshop was to experiment with the possibilities of generating space using materials that have a certain physical flexibility by creating a series of three assembled architectural models that would evidently highlight and make use of these qualities. Each model was thought out as an exercise for testing out an isolated principle of working with such materials (bending, stretching, hanging, inflating, tensioning, etc.). What resulted was a series of prototype-like objects that showcase walkable/possibly inhabitable structures of varying uses, according to the viewer’s personal interpretations regarding scale and their own a priori spatial experiences.

“bushi” elemental table parametric furniture design V4Design workshop project (Erasmus) 2019/2020

The main task was to work with 3D models chosen from a library of point-cloud scanned objects curated around the theme of East Asian culture, which we would incorporate into a bespoke household furnishing piece. I chose the model of a full-body Samurai armor. The result: a figurative token that embodies the Japanese calligraphy symbols of the four primordial elements (earth, water, wind and fire) showcased through a simple, solid and imposing table. The main body was created with Autodesk Project Monolith by lofting the symbols together. I imagined the virtues of the Samurai training in perfect synesthesia with nature, therefore the body was parametrically populated by a symbolical army of warriors practicing their craft. As a final touch, a weighted countertop made of acrylic glass resembling a flipped element of a Pagoda roof was added over the body. Together they become a blend of static and dynamic shapes and create a striking, yet useful piece of furniture.
