Business Man
Donald Trump “I will...quickly and decisively bomb the hell out of ISIS, will rebuild our military and make it so strong no one - and I mean, no one - will mess with us.”
Campaign Platform: Working Class: · Promises that, if elected president, no single person earning less than $25,000/year (and no married couple earning less than $50,00 year) will have to pay any income tax. Immigration: · Has called for a ban on all Muslims entering the country (both as immigrants and as tourists) “until our country’s representatives can figure out what’s going on”. · Has called for a wall to be built across the southern border of the United States and for Mexico to pay for it. · Until Mexico agrees to build the wall, he is calling for the seizure of money sent through the mail by illegal Mexican immigrants as well as the increase of fees on temporary and NAFTA worker visas and border-crossing cards. · Wants to end birthright citizenship (14th Amendment) to prevent the children of illegal immigrants from becoming American citizens. Guns and Violence: · Believes in the Nation Right To Carry, the belief that a concealed weapons permit should be valid in all 50 states. · Believes in people being able to own whatever weapon they want (some states today have a “High Capacity Magazine Ban” preventing people from buying guns that can hold more than a certain number of rounds of ammunition). · Wants to bring back “Project Exile”; proposes that all previously convicted felons carrying firearms should be prosecuted in federal instead of state courts with harsher sentences (minimum of 5 years), no option of bail and no possibility of early release. Foreign Policy: · Proposes the lowering taxes on corporations and companies in order to reform the US-China trade relationship. In doing so, he believes it will “keep American companies and jobs at here at home” and prevent “ [any] more sweatshops and pollution havens from stealing jobs from American workers.” Criticisms: Trump’s views have sparked controversy from not only opposition party candidates but also fellow party members. His call for a nationwide ban on Muslims ignited considerable backlash and criticism, with President Obama calling the proposal “totally contrary to our values as Americans”. Opponents of the proposal argue that there should not be a religious test in order to enter the country. Regarding his stance on immigration reform, critics have accused Trump of racism and discrimination (specifically towards Mexicans and Muslims), prompting Mitt Romney to publically denounce Trump for acts that were “unpresidential”.
