Immigration: · Promises to end family detention at the U.S. border and close private immigrant detention centers. · Promotes naturalization- will fight to help immigrants acquire citizenship. Working class: · Wants to build upon President Obama's legacy and defend his accomplishments- will keep building on the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) to decrease the amount regular people have to pay out of their own paycheck. Clinton says she will also protect women’s access to reproductive healthcare. · Promises free, quality preschool for every 4-year-old in America · Will fight to make college more affordable, and ensure that no student ever needs to borrow to pay for public college tuition in their state. · Stands for preventing and finding an Alzheimer’s cure by 2025, and plans to invest $2 billion a year in Alzheimer’s research. Climate Change · Plans to generate enough renewable energy to power every home in America and make the United States the clean energy superpower of the 21st century. Guns and Violence · Strong advocator for gun violence prevention- proposes to repeal the “Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act”, a law that protects gun manufacturers and dealers from being legally liable if their guns are used to commit crimes. Will fight to improve laws prohibiting mentally ill people from purchasing guns. Criticisms: She used her personal email account rather than an authorized government address while Secretary of State. Due to this, an FBI investigation was initiated under the suspicion of possible mishandling of government secrets and information. Some of these emails have been classified by the State Department as Top Secret, but there is disagreement (between the State Department, intelligence agencies and Congress) as to whether or not the messages can be classified as such. GOP candidate Donald Trump has especially condemned this act.
