Campaign Platform: Working Class/Marriage and Abortion: · Believes that marriage is the unification of one man and one woman and strongly believes in religious liberty. Publically stood behind Kim Davis, a Kentucky county clerk jailed for contempt of court after refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. · Pro life: promises to launch an investigation into Planned Parenthood on day one in office. Immigration: · Wants to end welfare benefits for illegal immigrants and build a wall along southern border with Mexico- triple border patrol Climate Change: · Does not believe in global warming- plans to repeal Obama’s Clean Power Plan, which imposed steep limits on carbon dioxide emitted from US power plants. Guns and Violence: · Strongly believes in the right to keep and bear arms and opposes limits on these rights. Foreign Policy: · Promises to repeal Obama’s Iran Deal on the first day in office. · Promises to continue to support Israel and provide it with “everything it needs to defend itself”. · Proposes to defund the United Nations if it “continues its anti-Israel bias and to withdraw federal funding from any American university that boycotts Israel”. Criticisms: Opposes the Affordable Care Act, stating that it resulted in “millions…[los]ing their health insurance”. However, there is no evidence to support this statistic, with about 10 million people having actually gained insurance between Sep. 2013 and Dec. 2014. He has also been heavily criticized by the left for his belief that marriage is the union between a man and a woman, and for his spirited support of Kim Davis’ refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
