• Kyle Fukuda competed in the Stevenson International Kendo Tournament in Canada and placed third in the individual and team fight. He is the third strongest player in the US and eligible to join the US Kendo Team. • Andrew Lustig placed second in the 13th Chinese Bridge Speech Contest for U.S. High School Students. He will travel to China this summer to represent MIHS. • On Tuesday, the Mercer Island Schools Foundation hosted the Breakfast of Champions, the district’s largest funding event of the year.

• On Friday, April 20, Skyward Family Access systems went down and were unavailable through Tuesday. • MIHS’s Spring Play, “The Servant of Two Masters,” had their first performance on Thursday. • The Stanley Ann Dunham Scholarship Fund awarded two Mercer Island seniors and two Rainier Beach seniors $5000 scholarships. Arwa Mokdad and Sophie Poole were the Mercer Island scholars.

• Leading up to a pep assembly on Friday, students celebrated spirit week with themes chosen by each grade: Monday–Flip Flop Day Tuesday–Beach Day Wednesday–Dress Like Your Favorite Teacher Day Thursday–Masters Golf Day Friday–Maroon and White Day

• Caroline Fraser, a MIHS alumni of 1979, recently won a Pulitzer Prize for her biography of Laura Ingalls Wilder, “Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder.” • Two thousand households across Mercer Island will be randomly receiving surveys from the ETC Institute on behalf of the City of Mercer Island. The surveys will gather information about citizens satisfaction with the City’s services. This survey is commissioned every two years.

• Mercer Island residents were invited Thursday to attend a meeting at the council chambers at Mercer Island City Hall to share input and ideas with the Mercer Island School Board.

• Bill Cosby was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault at his home in 2004. He faces up to 10 years in prison for each case. • Ex-cop Joseph James DeAngelo was discovered as Golden State Killer, responsible for a series of killings, rapes and assaults in the 1970s and 80s.

• KCLS joins Kanopy, a on-demand streaming service which all KCLS members can now use.
