Monotype advisor and typography commentor Stanley Morison vertainly wasn’t one to pull his punches, so in the late 1920s,when he decided that the UK’’s Times newpaper needed a redesign, he was asked his advice on improving it.Consequently. Morison set out on his quest to revamp the newpapers according to his own principles. According to legend, under his direction, tradesman Victor Lardent carried out the design of the letters. However much of the work may have been done by Amerian Enginner. Starling Burgess, who also had a line in building yachis and aeraplanes. In the end, The Times introduction of its new font went with little notice, which Morison believed to be a complete triumph Later in the decade, the paperback revolution started

by Penguin used Gill Sans(commissioned by Morison for Monotype) for its covers and Times New Roman for its running copy. When the web came into being in thr early 1990s, it wans Times New Roman that became its most used font, providing exactly what Morison intended: legibility, despite its somewhat pivelated appear-once on the new platform. He was famous, not for his own designs, but for his championing of typography . He wrote a famous esaay entitled First Principles of typography and a well known book called a tally of typoes. He is one of the mosT important figures in printing history and Times New Roman is known by everyone.
