Hello! D

are I confess? I do other crafts. Strangely, they just make me like papercraft more! I’ve been working on a needlepoint cushion recently and five months into the project the end is nowhere near in sight – thank goodness for card making! What other craft lets you finish something fabulous in just 20 minutes? And then there’s the gadgets... fabric and threads are all very well but there’s nothing more exciting than surrounding yourself with stamps, punches, die-cutting machines and fancy scissors. I’m thrilled to share this feeling with this month’s free gift of shaped scissors. I know you’ll love them. If I had my way, there’d be no straight lines, they’d all be scalloped! If you’re ready for another gadget fix, I can highly recommend the Button Studio, which lets you make your own buttons to match every project. Subscribe this month and we’ll send you one to try for yourself! Have fun!

Shopping list Your shaped scissors, plus… Poppyseed * K&Co collection – Designer

Paper Pad, Floral Grand Adhesions, Adhesive Borders & Icon Clearly Yours, all from Personal Impressions*

* Black buttons & turquoise * Green ribbons, from Fantastic

Fold up this clever frock! This little party dress is made from just one scalloped circle! Cut two slits into the circle to make top of the dress, and then fold in the sides to create the skirt shape. To finish your dress, tie a length of ribbon around the waist and add a cute flower embellishment.

Ribbons*

polka dot ribbon * Purple Sticky * foam pads, both from The Range* Phrases stamps, * Basic from Stampin’ Up!* * Black ink pad * Coloured fineliner pens *see page 94 for stockists

tip To cut a continuous scalloped pattern, be sure to reposition the scissor blades so that they match the pattern in the last snip you made.

Cards designed by Angela Poole

Thrill them with adorable frills Snip simple motifs from coloured card, then dress them up with scalloped details. Give a frilly look to a little bib, babygro and pram for the sweetest new baby card. You can even highlight the edges with a fineliner pen.

Shaped scissors project

Layer up fancy paper blooms

tip To cut straight scalloped edges, lightly draw a line with a pencil and ruler first to guide you!

Transform your card blanks Turn an ordinary card blank into something special by trimming the edges with your shaped scissors – draw guidelines in pencil first. Try cutting more away from the front flap of the card so you can show off a cute dotty ribbon wrapped around the back flap!

Your shaped scissors are great for making layered flowers for cards and gift bags. Simply cut out scalloped circles from plain and patterned papers, then layer them up with sticky foam pads. Don’t worry about cutting perfect circles – irregular shapes add to the charm!

Turn over for more brilliant card ideas

Send a stylish feathered friend Cut small strips of patterned paper to add feathers to a simple paper bird motif. To give your bird some magnificent tail feathers, snip scalloped edges along pieces of patterned paper, then cut to make little heart shapes. PaperCraft

Your free gift Snip speedy gift tags Use your scissors to make a quick gift tag. On white card, draw around a cup with a pencil to mark out a neat circle, then cut it out with your shaped scissors. Now get busy layering on patterned paper pieces, flower shapes and a message!

Doodle lacy looks

tips

Decorate a paper teacup and saucer with scalloped details for a charming vintage look. Give your scalloped edges a lacy effect by adding a little dot to each scallop with a coordinating fineliner pen.

✿ If your shaped scissors become blunt after a while, you can sharpen them by cutting aluminium foil.

Craft a fabulous butterfly card

✿ Use fineliner pens to highlight your cut scalloped edges.

✿ When cutting around corners, you’ll find it easier to turn the paper as you cut rather than manoeuvre the scissors!

Make a fluttery butterfly then trim the wings with your shaped scissors. Highlight the edges of your butterfly with a coordinating fineliner pen and add easy details snipped from floral patterned paper.
