Adult Formation
Canon Katie’s Bible Study
Tuesdays, January 9, February 13, March 12 10 am in the cathedral library or 5 pm on Zoom Matthew’s gospel lays out Jesus’ genealogy, and among the many men listed are five women – some of them rather unlikely ancestors in his royal lineage. Join Canon Katie in an exploration of the foremothers of Jesus: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary. All who identify as women are welcome.
Living with the Psalms in Lent
Wednesdays from February 21 to March 20 10 am in the cathedral library Join Richard and Katie every Wednesday during Lent at 10 am in the cathedral library to discuss John Bell’s Living with the Psalms. Bell, a Scottish minister, hymn writer, and lecturer, explores the Psalms as they relate to daily life, drawing on personal testimonies and offering mindful suggestions for prayer. He reminds us that the Psalms were known and often quoted by Jesus and that “Jesus’ spirituality was deeply rooted in the Psalms.”
At Saint John’s, we have a shared hunger for meaning, learning, and connection. Christian Formation includes journeying together through faith and doubt, engaging in scripture, sharing our stories, and exploring what it means to follow Christ in a world that needs the good news of God’s love. For more information on all of our formation opportunities, go to sjcathedral.org/learn.
Sacred Ground Anti-Racism Discussion Circles
Alternate Wednesdays beginning February 7 Sacred Ground is a film and reading based dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. This small group will walk through America’s history of race and racism, in safe community, for 11-weeks to discover whether, and how, systems of white supremacy have impacted our society both here in Colorado and as a nation. Two circles will begin the week of February 5; one fully on Zoom, and the other in person at Saint John’s on Wednesday evenings. To register, email Tina Clark at tina@sjcathedral.org.
The Everding Lecturer: Dr. Adam Gregerman
Wednesday, February 7 at 7 pm In this conversation with Dean Richard, Dr. Gregerman will share content from his Iliff lecture titled Reclaiming the Jewishness of Jesus. They will also explore historic and current Jewish and Episcopal relations, which is the topic of his winter class for Iliff students, and then offer an appraisal of the current situation in the Holy Land and Palestine. The class will close with time for questions from the audience for both Dr. Gregerman and Dean Richard.
