ACO Qmax® System
QMAX FEATURES OVERVIEW ACO Qmax® Overview
Designing the Scheme
ACO Qmax 900 and ACO Qmax 600 have been developed to satisfy the demand for an economic, high capacity drainage system for applications involving large catchment areas. They are designed to cater for situations which are subject to varying load classes as well as offer genuine attenuation solutions for applicable SUDS applications.
Getting drainage specification right is crucial and with so many issues to consider, it is important to assess all the different variables in order to reduce any potential risk.

In some large area applications such as distribution centres, airport pavements, highways and car parks, conventional point drainage or even linear drainage solutions are not viable and are not cost effective in reducing underground pipework or coping with the hydraulic environment. ACO Qmax® has been designed for high hydraulic capacity and to be lightweight yet robust to withstand the rigours of typical construction site handling practice and minimum installation times. Manufactured from tough, chemically resistant Medium Density Polyethylene (MDPE), ACO Qmax® is light, easy to handle and quick to install. The ACO Qmax® System is a patent design, which is currently available in two sizes to provide an effective and economical drainage solution for a range of catchment sizes. The ACO Qmax® 600 size can carry flows of around 100 l/s even when laid level (depending on length of channel etc) and the larger ACO Qmax® 900 size can carry flows of around 300 l/s when laid level, and considerably more when laid to a fall. Please see the separate ACO brochure on Qmax® hydraulics for further information on capacities.
At ACO, we recognise these challenges and offer a free of charge Technical Support Service to assist the Specifier and Contractor in designing and installing ACO Qmax® schemes. ACO’s Technical Services team utilise powerful new bespoke software to offer state of the art computer aided scheme design and hydraulic performance calculations, along with an installation advice service without obligation.

QMAX ® FLOW REGULATOR The ACO Qmax® system is designed to offer the first genuine flow management and attenuation control as an integrated part of a line drainage solution. The ACO Q-Brake™ has no loose or moving parts, is compact and occupies no additional volume as it resides within the channel. Its performance is fully laboratory verified. Further information is provided in conjunction with detailed designs provided by ACO Drain Design Services.

QMAX FEATURES OVERVIEW Load Classes Load classes are determined from BS EN 1433*. This Standard defines six "Groups of Installation" ranging from Group 1 (areas that can only be used by pedestrians and pedal cyclists) to Group 6 (areas subjected to especially high wheel loads e.g. aircraft pavements). For each group of installation, the Standard indicates which minimum Load Class should be selected, (the selection of the appropriate load class being the responsibility of the designer). The Load Class is denoted by a letter and a number, the number representing the test load in kN that the channel must support.

The ACO Qmax® system can be designed to cater for all installation groups and load classes. Appropriate concrete reinforcement will be required in the installation detailing for load classes D, E and F.

ACO Qmax® System
QMAX FEATURES OVERVIEW Load Class and installation benefits The ACO Qmax® system has been designed for ease of installation in both renovation and new build work environments.
Further, more detailed information relating to ACO’s recommended methods of installation can be found in the ACO Qmax® Sitework and Installation brochure. Connecting to pipes is also made easy with the availability of a special side inlet unit, requiring only standard flexible pipe couplings to maintain a watertight solution as required by BS EN 1433.
Specialist manhole connectors are also available to ensure ease of installation. Further information relating to these components is available in the ACO Qmax® Technical Data brochure.
In situations requiring high performance Load Class F900 certification, the patented integral Pavement Beam feature negates the need for specialist channel/pavement reinforcement solutions and allows for the optimum pavement reinforcement detail to be employed when required. This in turn allows for easier and quicker installation for the full range of load classes whilst maintaining high load performance.
