On this page I have posted one my chess games in which I played the White side of the Réti Opening.

The game includes analysis and diagrams. This is a quick game because I blundered early on.

This game is one of many losses and draws that brought my ICC Standard Rating below 1500.

Since this game was played back in 2011 my standard rating at ICC has bounced round between 1450 and 2000 points. Currently, it is just over 1500 points. I am not playing chess on ICC right now so my standard rating is not going to change any time soon.

Réti Opening after 2. Nf3.

I intended to play the English Opening, but Black’s first move caused me to change my mind and to play the Réti Opening instead.

Bg4 3. cxd5 Qxd5 4. Nc3 Qa5

Réti Opening after 4… Qa5.

In retrospect, I think that trading queens now was a mistake. Playing 5. e3 and 6. Be2 might have been better.

5. Qa4+ Qxa4 6. Nxa4 Nc6 7. Nc5 O-O-O 8. d3 Nb4!

Réti Opening after 8… Nb4!

White would have been better off with 8. a3, keeping the Black Knight off b4. Now, the White King is stuck in the Center where the Black Rook can attack it.

9. Kd2 e6 10. Ne4 Bxf3 11. gxf3 f5

Réti Opening after 11… f5.

White’s pawn structure is a mess!

12. Nc3 Nf6 13. a3 Nbd5 14. Nxd5 Rxd5 15. b4

Réti Opening after 15. b4.

White is trying to develop his bishops and to get his King out of the Center.

Nh5 16. Bb2 Rg8

Réti Opening after 16… Rg8.

White does not want the Black Knight to go to f4 but putting the pawn on e3 leaves the White pawn at d3 a little weak.

17. Ke3 Bd6

Réti Opening after 17… Bd6.

I have no idea how I missed such an obvious checkmate thereat! Better was 18. d4, giving the White King an escape square, but White is probably still lost.
