Amethyst Amelia Kelly (born 7 June 1990), better known by her stage name Iggy Azalea is an Australian songwriter and rapper. Azalea started rapping at 14 in Australia.[2] She is perhaps better known for her promotional songs “Pu$$y” and “My World” whose music videos went viral on YouTube. [3][4] In April 2012, Azalea starred alongside Grammy-nominated producer Diplo and FKi in the world’s first fully interactive ‘shoppable’ music video for Canadian fashion retailer SSENSE.[5]

Iggy Azalea was born Amethyst Amelia Kelly in Sydney, Australia but moved with her family to Mullumbimby when she was still a baby, into a house on 12 acres that her father built by hand from mudbricks in New South Wales.[1][2][6] Her father was a comic artist and painter and her mother a real estate agent. Azalea says her father “made her look at [art] as a teenager” which has always influenced her life and work.[6] Azalea took her stage name from her family’s dog while growing up.[7] Before embarking on a solo career, Azalea formed a group with two other girls from her neighborhood: “I was like, I could be the rapper. This could be like TLC. I’ll be Left Eye.”[8] Azalea eventually decided to leave the group because the other girls weren’t taking it seriously: “I take everything I do serious. I’m too competitive.”[8] In 2011, Iggy Azalea began uploading a number of freestyle videos on YouTube that subsequently went viral. Her popularity began to flourish into a career when her first official music video, Pussy, was uploaded on her channel.

On 27 September 2011, Azalea released her first project, a mixtape titled Ignorant Art, saying she made it “with the intent to make people question and redefine old ideals”.[9] In November 2011, she released a music video for another promotional song “My World” directed by Alex/2tone, featuring a cameo from

character actor and former wrestler Tiny Lister, which earned her more attention due to its rising popularity online.[10] “It’s supposed to have like, all the ridiculousness of a big-budget ’90s video, but then chopped and screwed,” Azalea explains.[11] Azalea revealed in December that she will be releasing her debut album, “The New Classic”, in the first quarter of 2012. She also said she will be signing a record label deal soon and “once that’s sorted out and I establish an over all sound and direction for the album I will be able to know what artists would make for a dynamic collaboration”.[4] In January 2012, Azalea released the visuals for her final promotional mixtape song, “The Last Song”.[12] On 27 January, Azalea confirmed she had finally signed to Interscope Records and her debut album, “The New Classic”, would be released in June and a debut single in March.[3] Iggy Azalea is getting a co-sign from T.I.. The Atlanta rapper will executive produce the newcomer’s upcoming debut. Iggy Said “I’m working with a different production company for my album than what I did for my mixtape [Ignorant Art], and I don’t know who yet,” Iggy told MTV News. “I’m still looking. T.I.’s gonna be helping me with it, kinda like A&Ring, kinda like executive-producing.” Azalea explained how she came into contact with T.I.. “He called me up and was like, ‘Yo.’ And I was like, ‘Definitely. You’re Tip. I love you, of course.’ So he’s gonna be kinda helping me out, like just kinda reaching out to people and helping me find production and pointing me in the direction of things that I might like.” “We’re gonna start on that next week together. I’ll probably fly out to Atlanta and we’ll do it in between there because he’s weird with traveling and stuff. I understand. We’re in touch with each other. I have legal issues, he has legal issues. I get it. So hopefully that will be really dynamic and it’ll help speed things along.” Iggy is eyeing a summer release for her debut The New Classic. “Hopefully if all goes to plan, my album will be out in June and I’ll have it recorded by the end of the month.”[13] In 2012 Azalea was featured on the cover of XXL as part of their annual “Top 10 Freshmen list” along with fellow up-andcoming rappers French Montana, MGK,

Tecno Brega ≈ Tecno Cheesy.

Øya Presents – Tecno Brega

Tecno brega or technobrega (cheesy techno) is a form of music from northern Brazil, particularly Belém. Music of the genre is created primarily through remixing and reworking songs from popular music and music from the eighties. While there is a large amount of famous music used in tecno brega, the majority of it is original material (80%). Several DJs and music producers from the tecno brega movement were featured in the peer-to-peer filesharing documentary Good Copy Bad Copy.

The music is created by producers in makeshift studios, whether in bedrooms or other unused spaces. Rather than being sold in a traditional CD format, tecno Banda UÓ was born from the passion for tropical rhythms. In october 2010 Mateus Carrilho and Davi Sabbag made a fictitious band and a video with a portuguese tecnobrega version of “Teenage Dream” (Katy Perry) as a way to spread a party. They party ended up being the most crowded in the history of their town (Goiânia) and they decided to keep up with the band, calling Candy Mel to seal the group with her

brega is characterized by new distribution methods. Rather than selling a CD in a store, tecno brega CDs are sold for a minimal price (averaging US$1.50) by street vendors, who often make the actual CDs themselves.Often producing their music with little concern for copyright, the music is “born free”. The street vendor is then in charge of making more copies and using the CDs as advertisements. These advertisements are for large reggae sound systems style parties, very similar to a rave. It is at these concerts that producers will make money, whether by entrance fees or by selling CDs produced that night from live music.

The sound systems themselves become a competitive point, encouraging producers to have the most up to date electronic equipment. They may attract as many as 12,000–15, 000 people to a show. With typical attendance, they may sell an average of 77 CDs and 53 DVDs after a performance. At these shows a performer may also do “shout outs” to friends, family, or neighborhoods, making the CDs more valuable to the audi-

ence. Shout outs can also be bought by pre-purchasing a CD of the concert prior to the beginning of the show. A performance can earn the performer on average R$2,200 (approx. US$1250 as of March 2012) a show. The music is created by producers in makeshift studios, whether in bedrooms or other unused spaces.
