Introduction The key to making money on oDesk (a freelancer website) is to find projects that applicants don't flood. One of the projects that doesn’t receive a lot of bids is expired domains. If you go to oDesk right now and type in expired domains you will see a quite few jobs that only have a few freelancers applying for, the reason only a few apply for that particular project, is because it takes a lot of work to find high quality expired domains without the proper tools and software. In this eBook I go through basic steps to find high quality domain for companies that are looking for these type of services.
Step 1 – Expired domain names search terms The best places to find expired domains are on websites that have a lot of outbound links. These type of websites would be: •
link exchange websites
•
directories
•
and so on
Here are some search terms that’s good for searching for link filled websites. •
keyword + intitle:resources
•
keyword + "suggested resources"
•
keyword + inurl:"useful links"
All you have to do is take one of the search terms, replacing the keyword with your niche, type the search term into Google search engine seen in the screen shot below.
And set up the date range in the search tools to about 4 or 5 years back. The reason you'll search 4 years back because people register domains for a year or two and let them expired. In the screenshot below you'll see how to set the search date.
Doing this will pull up websites from 2006 to 2010. And the websites will have “useful links� in the url, because of the search term you used (keyword + inurl:"useful links").
Step 2 – Using xenu to extracted expired domains Know that I found a website that have possible expired domains, I will need to check the outbound links to find the domains I need. In the screen shot below is a website I found by using my search term.
Know it's time to use a free software name xenu. There's a link on the resource page where you can find and download it. Now it's time to place the url of my website I found into xenu.
After running xenu it will check all the urls on the website. When xenu is finished running--- look for the urls that say “no such host� in the status column. Check out the screen-shot below.
I found a url that can be an expired domain. Know lets go to a website like namecheap or godaddy to see if I can register the domain for the regular registration price.
Conclusion Finding expired domain names can be a very profitable business to start. There are companies on odesk looking for people that can find expired domains right now.
