Back to School

Whether students return to classrooms or virtual learning persists, there will be a new look and feel to school. But how long will it last? by AMBER TUELLER

6 SEARCHCASTLEROCK | AUGUST 2020

B

ack to school  is a common phrase that brings traditional feelings and images to mind – families going school shopping, kids organizing backpacks, and school open houses bring a feeling of new beginning and excitement. Students are returning to full-time learning and seeing classmates after the summer break. Summer is coming to a close and the crisp fall air will soon be here.    Going back to school this year will be very different. With so many unknowns because of the COVID-19 crisis, school districts are fielding a lot of questions and are having to put a variety of new policies in place. They have consulted with the Tri-County Health Department, as well as other health organizations.  After feedback from  a community survey and input from a special task force made up of educators, community members, health care professionals, students, and parents, the district has put together a plan of action for the 2020-2021 school year.   Douglas County School District is offering an option for families that are not comfortable with in-person learning to engage in remote learning from home. Many students will also be going back to in-person learning with a variety of restrictions. School start dates have been postponed to allow teachers extra time to prepare for changes. Douglas County School District has a comprehensive webpage answering frequently asked questions to help get a feel for how things will be handled and the restrictions that are required at this time. For more information, visit dcsdk12. org. See Road to Return DCSD 2020-2021.  Good luck to families and educators at this unique and challenging time! AUGUST 2020 | SEARCHCASTLEROCK 7

SUMMER’S LAST CALL BY SEARCH SOUTH AURORA STAFF

In the face of current challenges, we have hope and opportunities for positive recreation as summer draws to an end. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced an unprecedented global shutdown. The impacts on sport and active living have been transformative, complex, and highly uneven. Sporting mega events and sporting leagues have been cancelled, closed, or postponed, and fitness centers, rehabilitation centers, and sport clubs have all been negatively impacted.

These facilities house strength and cardio equipment, open at limited capacity. The Rec Center pool has a handful of time slots that can be reserved for lap swimming. The Leisure Pool will accommodate up to 48 swimmers, and 3 people at a time can sign up for the hot tub. The Burgess and Butterfield outdoor pools have twohour time slots available for 119 and 72 people.

In our current world full of closures, we’re grateful to have some businesses open, even at limited capacity. In Castle Rock, the town’s Recreation Center has been open since the beginning of June and has supplied some much needed recreation to our limited options. The Miller Activity Complex is open for summer camps, but is currently closed to the public.

After a few months of living in various levels of quarantine, the opportunity to exercise and be involved with others through recreation is good for all of us – physically, socially, and mentally. Community health is still a great concern, so restrictions have been set to keep safety as a top priority. A list of recreation center restrictions can be found on the town’s website.

The staffs at these locations are taking great lengths to maintain clean and safe environments to allow them to remain open. And while many COVID-19 adjustments have affected “normal” operations, they are still available for a variety of activities.

While limited staff and strict circumstances require extra patience and understanding, it is a blessing to take advantage of our town’s great facilities!

BUILDITBETTER

WE ASKED AN EXPERT

Expert guidance will continue as building begins. The sales and construction team will walk the buyer through important milestones and provide progress updates. Home consultants apprise the buyer of the adjustments and corrections that can happen during the building process. Before closing, there will be a meeting with a warranty representative to demonstrate how to use and properly maintain all the components of the new home. As the project draws to a close, everyone who helped anticipates move-in day with excitement.

How to Make Your House a Home Cardel Homes' Sara Dieringer Vice President of Operations and Sales

In the world of online shopping and factory production, building a home is one of the few remaining things created by man, in real time, in the public’s eye. However, many people find this process overwhelming. At Cardel Homes, a group of experts helps the buyer through every step. One doesn’t have to be a professional designer or a construction manager to enjoy the benefits of building a new home. The sales team, the buyer's main point of contact, will help by explaining the terms of the contract, the build process and what to expect at each stage. They can assist in choosing the lot and floorplan. After this, the buyer will move to the next phase, going to the design center to work with a professional designer putting the interiors together while staying within budget. 14 SEARCHCASTLEROCK | AUGUST 2020

Cardel Homes, which started as a small family-owned business in 1973 and is now an international company, has shaped over 150 communities and built over 20,000 homes. Despite growth, Cardel retains the best attributes of a family-run business – quick reflexes, tight-knit management, and an ironclad dedication to quality and community. Each of their neighborhoods focuses on establishing a strong sense of belonging. They are the company to choose when building a home!
