CASTLE ROCK OKTOBERFEST 2018 marks Castle Rock’s 25th Annual Oktoberfest with a local favorite, Rockyard Brewing Company, as the primary beer provider of the event. Eleven other breweries will join the festival including 105 West, Jagged Mountain, Barnett & Son, Lone Tree Brewing, Burly, Astro Tap, Odyssey, Empyrean, Lost Highway, Mason Ale Works and Bristol Brewing Company. Raise a stein and get ready for another amazing event this year! Castle Rock Oktoberfest, sponsored by Bellco Credit Union, is a free, family friendly event that will be held on Saturday, September 29th, from 1pm – 9pm, right in the heart of Downtown Castle Rock. (Beer token pre-sale starts at 9am) This year, this ever-popular fall festival will feature free bounce houses, face painters, balloon artists, German dancers, live music, extreme pumpkin carving, college football viewing courtesy of Xfinity, a Cap’N Cornhole tournament, food trucks and a variety of Colorado breweries. Last year, over 10,000 people gathered in Downtown Castle Rock to sample brews, enjoy some bratwursts and, when the mood strikes, dance! This year’s festivities will begin with a ceremonial keg tapping, which sets the stage for stein hoisting, classic Bavarian tunes and all the family activities. The festival covers a lot of ground, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring sunscreen! Although warm weather is anticipated, be sure to check the event’s Facebook or Twitter page for the most up to date event information (in the event of Colorado weather blitzkrieg!) Oktoberfest is the largest event that the Castle Rock Downtown Merchants Association produces each year. The Castle Rock Downtown Alliance is a partnership between the Downtown Merchants Association (DMA) and Downtown Development Authority (DDA.) The two

organizations share a goal of increasing commerce and activity in Downtown Castle Rock with the DMA focusing on visitor traffic for organized events and the DDA furthering thoughtful development in partnership with the Town. The DMA and DDA share one office and one director helping to further the collective vision of a vibrant and prosperous Downtown. For those navigating near the Downtown area for Oktoberfest, be advised that Wilcox Street will be closed between 3rd and 5th streets, 4th Street will be closed between Perry and Jerry Streets, and Jerry Street will be closed between 3rd and 4th Streets. If you’re planning to drive to Oktoberfest, parking will be available at the Douglas County parking garage located at 3rd and Jerry Street, on the southwest corner of the event venue. Also, there is parking on Elbert Street between 3rd and 4th Streets, one block west of the event. Make it even easier on yourself by taking advantage of the trolley providing FREE shuttle service! 2018 MuckFest Join in on the fun on Saturday, September 15th, for MuckFest MS, the FUN mud run with awesome obstacles! The 5K course features mountains of mud and 18 obstacles primed to make you fly and climb higher than you've ever gone before. This event is built for laughs from start to finish, but participants are also on a serious mission to support the life-changing work of the National MS Society. The 2018 MuckFest MS event series will take place in seven cities throughout the U.S. to help raise funds for those living with multiple sclerosis This year Parker joins Boston, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Detroit, Chicago and Dallas in the fight against MS. MuckFest MS is a 5K mud obstacle course that requires no training and is for any level -- from the beginner to the star athlete. In 2018, MuckFest MS anticipates more than 28,000 participants nationwide mucking it up to help get us to a world free of multiple sclerosis. Registration for the events is now open at www.MuckFestMS.com. Runners laugh their way through a 5K obstacle course as they slither through the Belly Crawl, jump into the Crash Landing stunt pad, and scale the mighty Mt. Muck-imanjaro. Other obstacles include Tunnel of Love, Spider Web, Shake & Quake, Swing Set, Spill Hill, Flying Muckers, Walk on Water, Skid Mark, Tight Rope, and more. After the event, participants gather in the MuckFestival area to celebrate their efforts out on the course with a free beer or soda. Over 90% of participants run on teams made up of friends, family, and coworkers. The event is free to spectators, and kids have their very own play area, called Lil’ Muckers, where they can splish and splash. Since MuckFest MS started, participants have raised $28 million for research. 100% of the funds raised goes to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s efforts to bring an end to MS and to help those currently living with it. In 2017, more than 32,000 participants raised more than $3 million. “We come together at MuckFest MS to lift up those who are affected by MS in an enjoyable and purposeful way,” said Liz Strawn, Senior Director of MuckFest MS & Special Events, National MS Society. “Every year we see teams made up of individuals who either have MS or support loved ones that do and can’t help but

feel inspired by their determination. This event gives participants the opportunity to have fun and directly impact the lives of those living with MS.” Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms vary from person to person and range from numbness and tingling, to walking difficulties, fatigue, dizziness, pain, depression, blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are leading to better understanding and moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 2.3 million worldwide. The Society mobilizes people and resources so that everyone affected by MS can live their best lives. Last year, the Society invested $40 million in MS research with more than 360 active projects around the world. Through its comprehensive nationwide network of services, the Society devoted $100 million to help more than one million people affected by MS connect to the people, information and resources needed. They are united in their collective power to do something about MS now and end this disease forever. Learn more at nationalMSsociety.org. To join the fight, and get messy doing it, register for MuckFest today at MuckFestMS.com.

Kitchen Tune-Up Joel and Jessica Winters, Owners 4465 Applecrest Circle, Castle Rock 303-495-2450 kitchentuneup.com/castle-rock-co
Hours of Operation: 9-6
We’ve all been there. You walk into your neighbor’s home or check out a new social media post and it’s there. Someone’s newly painted cabinets or perfectly picked backsplash. Sparkling countertops and appliances that make yours look rather, well, vintage. Kitchen envy is real but the idea of gutting and redoing your outdated space is really daunting. Couple that with the unenviable task of finding a reliable and trustworthy contractor to handle the job and keeping your dingy cabinets doesn’t sound so bad. Taking the sting out of updating a room used as much as your kitchen is exactly what motivated Joel and Jessica Walters to start Kitchen Tune Up. “After our experience with a few contractors, we were surprised by the lack of respect for our time and home. We definitely saw a need and when we were presented with this opportunity, it clicked immediately that this is something we would love to bring to our community.” Kitchen Tune Up specializes in 1- 5 Day Kitchen Updates with services including Wood Cabinet Restoration (our Tune Up), Painting, Redooring, Refacing, Refacing Plus (with matching modifications), custom cabinets, countertops, and bathrooms. Their services aren’t just for major make-overs either, they have something

for almost every project and almost any budget! Don’t be afraid to ask them questions, they have many options available to meet all their customers’ needs. “We saw an opportunity to serve and treat our neighbors well during their home improvement projects. Setting the bar higher for the way their expectations and concerns are being handled. Our “Trustpoints” ensure that we communicate well and that we value our clients’ time, home, and listen carefully to their needs or wants in a project.” Those Kitchen Tune-Up Trustpoints state that they: Guarantee their estimates, they guarantee their work, arrive on time, clean the work area daily, they return messages within 24 hours, strive for harmony with your daily routine, tell you what they’re doing before they do it and they listen carefully, tell it straight and keep their promises. Maybe that minor update or even that major make-over isn’t such a far fetched idea. Go to their website and look at what’s possible in as little as one day with Kitchen Tune-Up’s services. Update your kitchen without disrupting your life. Your reimagined space might just end up being the source of some kitchen envy!

at Trestles. Fresh Oysters, a New England style Clam Chowder and our Cioppino, a seafood stew, frequently get comments like, ‘Best I’ve ever had!’ If you go by the numbers, our crab cakes are a top seller, filled with lump crab meat and just enough panko to hold them together.” Owners Jose and Mimi Espinoza have over 30 years experience in the restaurant business and they knew the timing was right to open Trestles Coastal Cuisine right here in Castle Rock. “Castle Rock was missing a good seafood restaurant. We live here too and wanted to serve the community in which we live with something that may not have been in demand 10 years ago but is now.” Trestles, which will celebrate its first anniversary next month, has become a second family for Jose and Mimi. “Our crew has become family and our guests have quickly become regulars who share their stories with us.
