Castle Rock Races Climb4Change – May 12th Life is often an uphill battle. Climb4Change takes an uphill battle and turns it into progress for an incredibly important cause, the Town of Castle Rock’s Adaptive Recreation Program. Since Climb4Change’s inception, program registration has increased 70% and the event has raised thousands of dollars helping to ensure everyone in the community has access to recreational opportunities. There are four events to choose from: Race to the Top – A one-time run to the top… think you can beat the course record? Trail Race – Go up the stairs and down the trail, but hurry, you only have 30 minutes. Power Hour – You guessed it. Up and down those stairs, for an hour! Run4Fun – This untimed event is a little less competitive way to show your support. You’ll go up the stairs and down the trail, just once, and it can be done at any time during the event except at the start of any of the other races. Participants in this event still receive a shirt and medal.
Memorial Day Run & March - May 26th The Memorial Day Run & March invites civilians, veterans and uniformed Military to challenge themselves to friendly competition, all while helping to feed homeless Veterans. Choose the 5K, 10K or 30K route and be sure to bring nonperishable food that you would like to donate. This year, you can upgrade any race to a more challenging Ruck March (participants will bring and carry a 25lb pack filled with non-perishable food during your race.) Finishers of the Ruck March will recived the Norwegian Foot March Badge. All non-perishable food items will be donated to help feed local Veterans in need. Hosted by Colorado Veterans Project, this event will also feature live music by local favorite, Buckstein. Four legged friends and little racers are welcome as well and entry for participants 12 and under is free (timing bib, medal and shirt not included.) The Memorial Day Run & March is the largest single day food donation event in Colorado. Since 2015, over 61,000 pounds of food has been donated to Veterans in need. May 12th the fun gets underway at 7:00am at the Challenge Hill at Philip S. Miller Park with packet pick up. Power Hour begins at 8am, the Trail Race commences at 9:25am and the Race to the Top starts at 10:15am. The Run4Fun officially begins at 10:45am but can be done at anytime. Rock Hawk Trail Race – May 26th Find yourself racing through the gorgeous trails of Castle Rock’s Miller Park and Ridgeline Trail systems in this race series featuring a 5K, 10K and the Rock Hawk Half Marathon. Packet pick up for the races will be at the Miller Activity Complex (MAC) at 6am with the Half Marathon beginning at 7:00am (there is a 4 hour time limit for this race.) The 5K commences at 7:15am and the 10K takes off at 7:30am. While challenging, the trails serving as the courses for these races are not overly technical, making them great events for all levels of runners, from first timers to veterans who may be training for longer summer events. Castle Rock’s annual youth triathlon, for all adventurous kids ages 5-14, offers up the chance for kids to get out, get active and give a challenge at try! On Sunday, May 20th, the bike racks at Butterfield Crossing Park and Pool will open at 6:30am with the race beginning at 8:00am. Tri the Rock will compete based on the athlete’s age as of Race Day, with the following divisions: 5-6 years old will swim 25 meters (one pool length), bike 1km (one lap around the park) and run 500 meters. Please note that this age group will not begin their race until 10:30 am. 7-8 & 9-10 year olds will swim 50m, bike 4km and run 1km and the 11-12 & 12-14 year olds will swim 100m, bike 8km and run 2km. The purpose of Tri the Rock is to get kids to try something new, so a portion of each registration fee is donated back to participants’ school or club. Be sure to indicate your school or club when you sign up and the winning school will get the honor of displaying the Tri the Rock trophy at their school this next year! Dalton’s Moon Foundation When you watch someone do something extremely difficult with an ease and grace that makes the impossible look effortless, it’s inspiring. Inspiring others is something Dalton Levine did throughout his lifetime through his amazing dance and orchestra performances, his impressive academic achievements and his eternally optimistic and inspiring way he lived his life while fighting a very rare and aggressive form of cancer, adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC). Diagnosed in high school, Dalton’s resolve never faltered. He remained positive and determined to fight this disease and get better, all while keeping his sense of humor and comforting younger cancer patients fighting the same fight. A warrior to the end, Dalton sadly passed away on December 13th, 2016. Following Dalton’s example of relentless positivity, humanity and kindness; his family was inspired to create the Dalton’s Moon Foundation in his memory. The continual mission of the foundation is to raise funds to empower armies of doctors, nurses, clinicians, scientists and support staff in our hospitals to get the resources they need in order to make cancer a thing of the past. Their dream is that the Dalton’s Moon Foundation will make the dream of “no more cancer” a reality. With these goals in mind, Dalton’s family and friends invite the community to join them in the 2nd Annual Dalton’s Moon Foundation Golf Tournament on Friday, June 15th, at the Spring Valley Golf Club. Funds raised from the tournament, as well as an online auction that will be live from June 8th-15th, will benefit Dancers Against Cancer, Children’s Hospital
Colorado, Children’s Tumor Foundation, and several more deserving causes to be determined. Before his passing, Dalton had participated in Colorado School of Dance’s “Dance for a Difference” show, a fundraiser for Children’s Hospital Colorado, since its inception. To date, this annual benefit has raised well over $100,000 for the hospital. He was also very proud to be chosen as an ambassador for Children’s Hospital in 2016. He represented the hospital at multiple events and supported numerous fundraising initiatives. Funds will also be used for a Legend High School College Scholarship, to be awarded to a student who exemplifies the same qualities and passion for learning and helping others that Dalton did. Despite the rigors of his intense
cancer treatments during his junior and senior years, Dalton continued to excel academically, graduating from LHS with honors, on time, with a better than 4.0 grade point average and in the top 3% of his class. Dalton had plans to attend University of Colorado - Boulder as a Computer Science major and ultimately to go to medical school and become a pediatrician. Release The Duckies!
This summer marks the 22nd Annual Ducky Derby and Street Festival coming to Castle Rock on June 9th. The Ducky Derby, hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Castle Rock and Castle Pines, is the largest fundraiser of the entire year for the clubs… and the most fun! Funds raised at the event are distributed to the Douglas/Elbert Task Force, Castle Rock Senior Center, The Family Women’s Crisis Center and Wellspring Community, among others. Rotary also funds student scholarships, youth leadership training and Boy Scouts of America projects. This year, the event will include an art show and sale hosted by local artist guilds. Festivities will run from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 9th, at Festival Park at Second and Wilcox Streets. There will be a variety of entertainment for children including a Ducky coloring contest, face painting, a bouncy castle and more. For the adults there will be music, food and drink, a silent auction and a variety of vendors to peruse. Saturday’s art show and sale will be held just one block north on Wilcox Street in front of the county administration building. The Court the Arts event, put on by the arts guilds of Castle Rock, is also free and runs from 10:00am5:00pm on both June 9th and 10th. Derby enthusiasts who are ready to race can enter the Ducky Derby by purchasing numbered tickets (available on weekends between 10am-2pm at King Soopers in the Castle Rock area, at Mama Lisa’s in Castle Pines North, or from any Rotarian prior to the race at the Festival.) Tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20. Tickets also may be acquired online at www.crduckyderby.org where detailed Ducky Derby information is available. Each ducky has a number affixed to its bottom. At the event, the Derby will begin at about 3:00pm with numbered Duckies being launched into East Plum Creek just below the I-25 bridge. The ducks will be taken out at a finish line down stream and their numbers will be posted on the festival grounds. People with numbered tickets have a chance to win cash and prizes! The two highest finishers will have a chance at winning $1 million or a new car. If those prizes are not won, the first three ticket holders will win cash; first prize being $2,000, second and third prizes $750 and $250 respectively. Additional prizes, donated by local merchants, will be awarded to people whose ticket numbers match Duckies with finishing positions up to about 50 places. All winners will be notified by phone in the days following the event. People do not have to be present to win. Kick off the summer with one of the most beloved events in town. Get your tickets and get ready to race in the 22nd Annual Ducky Derby!

I have always enjoyed Castle Rock and have family in the surrounding area. I recognized a need for a custom 4x4 shop to serve the growing population of off-road enthusiasts in the Castle Rock area.
My goal is help my customers make smart decisions when modifying their vehicles. When completing projects, I aim to think outside of the box and create custom solutions based on individual needs. I strive to gain an understanding of how my customers have been using their vehicles, as well as how they want to use their vehicles in the near and distant future. This ultimately helps me find a balance between performance and the customer’s budget.
WHY DID YOU GET INTO THIS TYPE OF BUSINESS? What started as a hobby slowly grew into a passion that consumed my life. I love working with my hands and sharing my passion with other off-road enthusiasts.

I love waking up everyday and going to work to build my business. Everything I do has direct impact on the performance of my shop. There is an indescribable level of satisfaction I have everyday that I just didn’t have when I was working for someone else.
I would encourage people to stop by the shop and check out whatever projects we are working on. I like when people stop by and just talk about their current vehicles and the vehicles of their dreams.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WANTING TO OPEN A BUSINESS IN OUR COMMUNITY?
I would tell them to go for it - there is no perfect formula for starting a business. You have to jump out of the airplane and build your parachute on the way down. There are endless avenues of support in the community and from other business owners to help you get started.
