Dalton’s Moon Foundation Golf Tournament

When you watch someone do something extremely difficult with an ease and grace that makes the impossible look effortless, it’s inspiring. Inspiring others is something Dalton Levine did throughout his lifetime through his amazing dance and orchestra performances, his impressive academic achievements and his eternally optimistic and inspiring way he lived his life while fighting a very rare and aggressive form of cancer, Adrenocortical Carcinoma (ACC). Diagnosed in high school, Dalton’s resolve never faltered. He remained positive and determined to fight this disease and get better, all while keeping his sense of humor and comforting younger cancer patients fighting the same fight. A warrior to the end, Dalton sadly passed away on December 13th, 2016. Following Dalton’s example of relentless positivity, humanity and kindness; his family was inspired to create the Dalton’s Moon Foundation in his memory. The continual mission of the foundation is to raise funds to empower armies of doctors, nurses, clinicians, scientists and support staff in our hospitals to get the resources they need in order to make cancer a thing of the past. Their dream is that the Dalton’s Moon Foundation will make the dream of “no more cancer” a reality.
Golf Club. Funds raised from the tournament, as well as an amazing silent auction, will benefit Dancers Against Cancer, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Flight for Life Colorado, and local student beneficiary scholarships. Before his passing, Dalton had participated in Colorado School of Dance’s “Dance for a Difference” show, a fundraiser for Children’s Hospital Colorado, since its inception. To date, this annual benefit has raised well over $100,000 for the hospital. He was also very proud to be chosen as an ambassador for Children’s Hospital in 2016. He represented the hospital at multiple events and supported numerous fundraising initiatives.
Dalton’s legacy lives on and his family and friends invite the community to celebrate that legacy at the Third Annual Dalton’s Moon Foundation Golf Tournament on Friday, June 14th, at the Spring Valley
If you were fortunate enough to see Dalton perform, you know that his love of life came through in his passion for the arts. If you never got that chance, you will no doubt be just as inspired by

Despite the rigors of his intense cancer treatments during his junior and senior years, Dalton continued to excel academically, graduating from LHS with honors, on time, with a better than 4.0 grade point average and in the top 3% of his class. Dalton had plans to attend University of Colorado - Boulder as a Computer Science major and ultimately to go to medical school and become a pediatrician. Dalton’s commitment to his education is the driving force behind the scholarships now awarded from funds raised by the Dalton’s Moon Foundation.

Maya Angelou once said, “If you’re going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can’t be erased.” Dalton Levine certainly left his mark, and it’s one that will be impossible to erase. Please consider honoring his legacy by supporting the Dalton’s Moon Foundation at their event next month and become a part of that legacy. If you are unable to attend the event, please consider becoming a sponsor through donation. All donations, including cash and items donated for silent auction, are tax-deductible. GQue Championship BBQ
8433 Park Meadows Center Dr Suite 143B, Lone Tree, 80124 www.gquebbq.com 303-729-2506 11-9 or when its gone - we close when we run out of food for the day as we make it all fresh each day
Have you ever watched a BBQ competition on TV? Do you wonder what that would taste like? Now is your chance to taste the food a Grand Champion BBQ master serves up. GQue Championship BBQ opened in December of 2018. They are committed to smoking 100%, all natural meats using pesticide-free Hickory wood 7 days a week for both Lunch and Dinner. The founder, Jason Ganahl has a background in Competitive BBQ. When he moved to Colorado in 2007 he sought smoked meats that reminded him of his home in Missouri and started judging professional BBQ contests, after judging for a couple of years Jason began competing and then winning. Jason has won several KCBS Grand and Reserve Grand Championships, 180’s & 700’s. Claiming stake to RMBBQA team of the year, winning the US’s 3rd largest contest and being inducted into the RMBBQA Hall of Fame. Jason knows BBQ and you will taste it when you sink your teeth into any of his specialties. The menu has pork, brisket, ribs, turkey, chicken wings, sausage and signature sandwiches. There are some great sides too and a daily special. I suggest going with friends so you can try several items. It is fresh and delicious with something for everyone. They also cater so consider them for your next party or office meeting. They pride themselves in cooking same day BBQ. It tastes best when it comes from the pit to your plate and then your mouth. The downside is if you wait too late in the day to come in, you are

taking the chance that they might be out of an item or two. They are the only BBQ restaurant in Colorado where the founder has won Professional BBQ contests all throughout the country. Look at the website (under Catering) to see their accolades from the restaurant community and right below that, his competitive accolades. Food & Wine and 5280 Magazine are just two of the impressive names that recommend this BBQ. They enjoy making people happy with an easy going place they can come into and enjoy good food. I couldn’t agree more. It was a friendly environment and we all enjoyed our meal. You won’t find this in the food court. They are in The Vistas at Park Meadows Mall. On the street that between The Vistas and the mall. Jason is proud to be in the Lone Tree area and enjoys being able to provide employment for people, undeniably impacting the customers day by providing good food at a fair price and positively impacting the community by taking an active role in it. He is fairly certain if you try his BBQ, you will find 3-4 items that you will be craving to come back and get again. I agree and we can’t wait to go back to GQue Championship BBQ. Check this out! Go to the website and look for a tab on the right side. Sign up for the newsletter and you get a free sandwich! How do you say no to that? Enjoy your BBQ!

The Glass Ocean
The Whispering of the Willows
By: Beatriz Williams, Lauren Willig and Karen White
It is April 1915 and we follow two young women as they begin an adventure on the luxurious Lusitania. Coming from very different backgrounds, Caroline Telfair Hochstetter and Tessa Fairweather find themselves on the same passenger liner steaming towards another country. Caroline is hoping to rescue her marriage and find the love that seems to have faded. Tessa is working with her sister on what she is hoping will be her last heist before turning to an honest life. Sarah Blake enters the story as she works in 2013 to unravel the stories that bind these women together. Sarah discovers treachery, intrigue, and love as she investigates the women and the circumstances around their trip,as well as the ill-fated Lusitania. PAM: We have read a book by these three authors, which I enjoyed immensely. When I found that they had written another surrounding the historical topic of the Lusitania, it was immediately on my list. I was drawn immediately to this story and the characters. Did you feel the same, Becky? BECKY: You would think that it would be difficult for three authors to write a cohesive story. Once again, I think that they were successful in making this novel flow. The storyline had a consistent pace and the imagery was similar. There is one storyline that I could sense a difference in depth but it didn’t take away from the overall story. I was not drawn in immediately to the full storyline. It took me a little time to completely pull these three stories together. I was much more interested in one story and one character so I think I rushed through the others to get back to my favorite. Did you enjoy all three storylines or did one grab your attention more? PAM: I also found that I was drawn to one storyline initially. However, as the story progressed, I found that my chosen storyline changed. I began to look forward to the life of a different character, as the connections became more clear and as I became more familiar with all of

the characters in the story. Caroline was the character I was most drawn to initially. She is hopeful to rekindle her marriage during this trip on the luxurious Lusitania. Her husband is more interested in his business dealings than in spending time with her and she is hoping to change his mind. Caroline is also becoming increasingly frustrated as her husband feels that she is too fragile and delicate to handle much of anything. Were you frustrated by her husband’s views of her abilities? BECKY: Her marriage was not ideal and he was not an attentive husband. He treated her like she was an accessory to his life and not a true partner. However, this was set in 1915 so I think you have to take that into account. A woman of her financial status was possibly viewed as arm candy so I think it was appropriate for the timeline and story. Caroline was a modern woman and wanted more from her marriage so she was an interesting character and I always enjoy a strong woman in a story. During the same timeline there is another character, Tessa that is an experienced con. What did you think about this spicy girl? Did you see her as the bad guy or did you secretly cheer for her to be successful in her plan?
LOCAL AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT
PAM: Tessa was a complicated character and she evoked many emotions. She had grown up being involved in schemes and cons with her family. However, she had decided she wanted out and desired to live an honest life. This aspect made me feel for her and cheer her on in her goal to break free from this life. However, she was also cynical and detached. These aspects made it hard for me to connect with and cheer for her character. There were many other angles that made this storyline not what it initially appeared to be. This kept me guessing! Both women are drawn to Robert Langford, a gentleman also on board and who is Caroline’s old friend. What did you feel about Robert’s character and his connection to both women? BECKY: He was quite the charmer and I enjoyed his part in this story. I imagine him as a young Robert Redford. There is a little bit of everything in this story so I think it would appeal to many different readers. It is time to sail away from this ocean story and move on to The Winter Sister by Megan Collins. A mystery that will take on the path of a teenager that goes missing and three days later her body is found.
by: Tonya Jewel Blessing Set against the superstitions and old time religion in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia, author Tonya Jewel Blessing tells a difficult, yet redemptive story of a blossoming young woman who is accompanied by her friends and her foes on a journey towards hope and healing. Love weaves through gutwrenching circumstances and dismal poverty where Emerald Ashby grows strong despite grievous wrongs committed against her. In this desperate historical setting, mysterious disappearances lead to traps set for the innocent. Now, when key individuals begin carving out a rescue plan, Emerald Ashby sets a few of her own traps. It’s a page turner. In this ailing town. What will be their measure of success? Cleverly suspenseful and sweetly spoken, the storyteller’s unassuming voice transforms an Appalachian trail of tears into holy terror against an evil that stalks the innocent. In The Whispering of the Willows, an Appalachian marriage practice might be compared to the modern sex trade which exploits young females. Available on: Amazon

The great outdoors is calling...are you and your family ready to listen? No matter if you are a complete camping novice or a seasoned outdoor enthusiast, Colorado has some of the best camping around. With many affordable and familyfriendly locations to camp in Colorado (some just down the road) you really have no reason to not get outdoors! Here are some of our favorites. Chatfield Reservoir
When visitors see Chatfield’s beautiful rolling foothills, expansive reservoir and abundant wildlife, they can’t believe the park is located just outside the Denver metro area. Their campground has full service sites available offering water, sewer and electric hookups or sites with electric only. Over thirty sites have new detached tent pads. cpw.state.co.us
Cherry Creek Reservoir
Easy to get to and with yearround camping available, Cherry Creek is great place for a quick week end trip or longer excursion. Their campground boasts deluxe full hook-up sites as well as basic tent sites. Showers and laundry facilities are also available. cpw.state.co.us
Jellystone Park™ Right down the road in Larkspur is a Yogi Bear™ themed, family-oriented, pet-friendly
private RV park and campground. Located north of Monument and south of Castle Rock right off I-25. In addition to camping they have many guest activities including disc golf! Jellystonelarkspur.com
Eleven Mile
With nine separate campground areas, Eleven Mile provides a very wide range of outdoor experiences. From full hookup sites with electricity to more secluded non-electric back country sites, you will find a great place to enjoy the outdoors with the family. cpw.state.co.us
Golden Gate Canyon
Only a short drive north, Golden Gate Canyon offers such amenities as electrical hook-ups and tent-sites in two different campgrounds, stocked fishing ponds, picnic sites and the Panorama Point Scenic Overlook, where visitors can see 100 miles of the Continental Divide. cpw.state.co.us
At night, put your food in the car...not your tent. Critters love a midnight snack and you don’t want them waking you up to eat. Dry ice in the bottom of your cooler will keep your ice from melting and help stop the “food soup” that your cooler usually ends up with. Put a magnesium spark tool and dryer lint in a zipper lock style plastic bag to keep it dry. Very light and handy when matches aren’t available Make a “camping box” and fill it with everything you need - plates, cups, matches, toilet paper, etc. Makes packing for your trip easy...it’s already done!
