Ask me what a Conservative Government stands for and the answer is this: we will reward those who take responsibility, and care for those who can’t.
If you risk your life to fight for your country, we will honour you. If you risk your safety to stop a crime, we’ll stand by you. If you’re frightened, we’ll protect you.
“
If you want to raise a family, we’ll support you. If you start your own business, we’ll be right behind you. If you save money your whole life, you’ll be rewarded. I won’t promise things I cannot deliver. But I can look you in the eye and tell you that in a Conservative Britain: If you put in the effort to bring in a wage, you will be better off. TIME FOR CHANGE. TIME FOR AN INTEGRATED, ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY TRANSPORT POLICY IN HOVE & PORTSLADE Conservatives in Hove are leading the way in tackling climate change with proposals to introduce electric car charging points on the city’s streets. The council has become the first outside London to install on-street charging points. The move is designed to encourage more people to drive environmentally-friendly electric cars and is part of the council’s commitment to sustainable transport. The Conservatives are also leading the way in looking at environmentally friendly mass transit systems, considering the first monorail of its kind in the UK, instead of more buses sharing already overcrowded roads. An integrated approach to transport means carefully structured cycle lanes (not like those in Grand Avenue!) and plans to
reduce the current parking fiascos with schemes like the redevelopment at the new Sackville Industrial Estate, which will have 550 underground car parking spaces. It also means recognising that all forms of transport have their part to play in getting around the city and supporting environmentally friendly options.
TIME FOR CHANGE. TIME FOR A REALISTIC HOUSING POLICY IN HOVE & PORTSLADE Brighton and Hove suffers from a shortage of affordable family housing, with many young families moving out of the city – forced out by prices. Central government has imposed regional housing targets and the pressure to meet these targets has led developers to build or propose large-scale developments with accommodation that is too small for the needs of families, such as the units proposed in the previous King Alfred development – a development that would have done nothing to retain families in the heart of the city. Conservatives have promised to give power back to local people so they can decide what type of housing they want in their area. That way, we can ensure that the
right type of housing is built and that the infrastructure to support any new development – such as schools, GPs and transport – is in place. It’s time for change. It’s time more decisions were made locally and time for less central government interference.
