The House of Achromatopsia
Achromatopsia is a rare condition in which one can only see in shades of gray. The House of Shadows is distinctly designed for those who experience achromatopsia or “color blindness” as the intent merely focuses on the use of liner distortion and negative space to cast light to the more monumental spaces such as the living room, dining room, or kitchen. The House of Shadows guides the user through the negative space casted by the program and opens to a larger central stair that captivates and connects all of the spaces together. The spaces are all connected through apertures created to funnel light into the space.
Windows to the exterior are kept at a minimal to reserve the inward sculptural nature of the project. The intent of the project seeks to analyze how circulation could be encouraged by lightness and darkness. The analysis studies how the use of negative space could be utilized to create a sense of compression and release through out the project. Introducing the central stair as the space that receives the most natural light as it sits below a monumental skylight, the sculptural stair encourages the user to navigate there as it is the point in which all spaces are connected.

The Conductor of Residence
Located in the Performing Arts District of Cincinnati, the building site resides across from Cincinnati Music Hall which is a renown architectural monument of Cincinnati Ohio. Cincinnati Music Hall is home to many great performances such as The Nut Cracker and even the Cincinnati Opera. When operating a show it’s important to note the importance of the conductor. The conductor it the most important person in the room. The conductor dictates the frequency and pace of the performance. The Conductor is an architect of performance his or her notions can transform the outcome of the opera. However when considering music hall as a structure, it seems as if its conducting it’s own rhythm, frequency, and proportion.
This analysis looks at the conductors, or the architects, hand gestures as a design language. If such notions can be translated to architecture, the architecture translate that notion to the user. This residence seeks to bridge the gap between performing arts and residential spaces. The residence does this by becoming a conductor of stability bringing resources such as a library, gym, daycare, retail spaces, a community development center, and affordable market rate apartments for the existing community.

Living Single, Living Together
The project is a three-story duplex located in Cambridge MA at the intersection of Kirkland St and Holden St. The Clients who are both retired Professors are seeking a home in Cambridge in which the program functions as a duplex but the home fronts Kirkland St. to respect the scale of the neighborhood. The Clients are intrigued to have an element of the house that removes them from the city. With frequent guests visitors, they are seeking to establish a intimate space that can also be shared. The Clients provided a regulated given plan in which is translated across all levels.
This project seeks to address these constraints by shifting the given plan as one moves throughout each level. This architectural position establishes a series rooms unique from its predecessor. of a buffer space between the context of home and that of urban context.

Sample, Cut, Stitch
This project is a three-story educational institution located in Somerville, MA at the intersection of Atherton St. and Harvard St. This project consistent of two distinct prescribed sections , a and b . Section A is swept radially across the site plot, meanwhile Section B is extruded orthogonally to maintain its implication of a volume within a volume. The purpose of this project is to produce an architecture in which a sectional jump an or jump cut occurs essentially stitching two distinct building types to establish a unique architectural discourse.
The project consists of four levels, a basement level and three stories above which house several types of program including small, medium, and large classrooms, offices, and a series of building areas in which are situated both on the perimeter of the building as well as the interior. This establishes a public and/ or intimate relationship to the public and those who utilize the space.

SITUATE, Infill
This project is a proposed fashion design studio and performance space located in Fort Point neighborhood in Boston, MA at in the intersection of Congress St and A St. The project is situated between two existing buildings, one which possesses a party wall and the other having active and inactive windows. The building form is fixed along the inactive portion of the site and becomes an extension of the street front. The project is also justified on two grids one that respects the frontage of the urban grid and the other that respects the grid of the infill. This creates as tension in plan which is resolved by establishing a zone that houses the buildings core. The core then becomes a backdrop for the designers utilizing the space as well as for art work that is to be placed on display. The program consists of open studios centered around a stair that organizes the primary circulation of the project. The stair acts as another layer to act as a backdrop for the models as they move throughout space. The building extends across half of the site and reserves the remainder of the site to outdoor performance.
