chapter 1. ACADEMIC WORK

Diploma project

TRANSITION ZONE : BELGRADE FREE ZONE project year : 2015

mentor : Nebojťa Fotirić, associate professor

Belgrade postindustrial zone, post industrial phase of Danube waterfront is the context of high density network of industry by-products. It seeks for the architecture which can design the context. Through the exemplary and exceptional clarity of the compositional gesture, a true part of the city recognizes and represents its typical aspects. The part is absolute; it stands in solitude, yet it takes a position with regard to the whole from which it has been separated. Making the new context means transforming the postindustrial zone into free zone. It tests the relation between the given context and the new one through the relation of geometry, structure and program. Analyzing the relation between cargo, duty free zone and the hotel which is the part of it and the part of the city in this composition, is the way of finding the geometry and structure. In the relation of volumes it means coating a part of the city above the free zone and making the new ground, parallel ground, new context. This plate follows up the infrastructure, the railway and the Danube street. Linking these infrastructural elements the base of the project becomes the line which connects them actually, the terminal which links the railway, Danube street and Danube river. Creating these relations between the city and the free zone raises the question about relation between architecture and its context, what is architecture in the context actually and what is and what becomes the designed context.

M6. Master project

IFEST : FESTIVAL COMPLEX AT FORMER TEXTILE FACTORY BEKO IN DORCOL, project OLDyearCITY QUARTER : 2014 mentor : Milan Djurić, associate professor

FESTIVAL AS A SIMULACRUM The iFEST is understood as a simulacrum. It’s a state which appears from the given reality but it transforms it through phases so in one point it has no connection with the state it ensued from. That’s what festival actually is. It is a simulacrum. The question that appears is how to materialize the simulacrum, how to interpret it through architecture. Making the simulacrum physical depends on the context. Simulacrum happens in a few layers of manipulation with the context so it could create an illusion through all layers of space and program. It takes everything what is given of the context and designs it making an illusion, making something else different from what can be seen. It is achieved through layers in structure and program. The elements cannot be parts of the composition without each other. The composition looks like the logic answer on the geometry of the factory but on the other hand it’s in collision with the geometry of the plot. The duality in the relation with the context elements needed the design of the context and creating the simulacrum.

chapter 1. ACADEMIC WORK

M5. Master project

SMALL CITY CENTER AT BELGRADE SHIPYARD project year : 2014

mentor : Aleksandru Vuja, associate professor

CITY CENTER AS A PUPPET SHOW The project is a critic of a state of the city center. People, visitors are manipulated by the market, by their own hedonism, their needs and desires. City center is a place of manipulation. User is a puppet. Center is a puppet theater. The program of the city center is mixed of housing, commercial and recreation. The location is at Belgrade shipyard. The program of a city center negates the location of a shipyard. So the concept starts from the theme from understanding a city center as a puppet show. The theater for the show is above and under the ground. It can’t be on the ground. It’s a collision. The program is housing and spa center as a commercial and recreation. It’s also a place where the user is led by pure hedonism and desire. The project is a mentally prison. It has maximum of comfort but users are treated as prisoners. They are the prisoners of their own will and desire. Puppet show is a kind of psychological prison. The context is ignored in this case. Manipulation systems are above and under the ground. The context is here just to make space for the access.

M4. Master project

MASTER CLASS project year : 2013 mentor : Igor Rajković, associate professor

MASTER CLASS : SCHOOL OF PASSION „Master Class“ - The theme should define everything. It defines everything. Master Class is passion, place of passion. That is what keeps masters being the best in the professions or hobbies they do. Master Class is the way of living. First of all this state defined the state of the house. It’s house of passion. It breaks! It breaks everything! It must have a core, a base from where are starting the elements which will define the geometry, the composition and the context.

MONASTERY COMPLEX OF HERCEGOVAČKA GRAČANICA CHURCH, TREBINJE, BOSNIA AND HERCEGOVINA project year : 2015

THE PEDESTAL The concept was to save the context, save the view from downtown to the Church and highlight the Church as a religious element in the town. Highlighting the Church is achieved ‘putting’ it on a pedestal. Pedestal is formed of two parts. The first one continues on the geometry of reef and makes a tourist and leisure introduction to the architectural composition. The second one is the stone pedestal where the Church and turret stand. They are linked with a scale of different ambient depending of the place in the composition they take. The pedestal refers to medieval Christian monastery complex.

HOUSING AND DEVELOPMENT OF CENTRAL ZONE IN SUBOTICA, SERBIA project year : 2015

THE NEIGHBORHOOD Creating the neighborhood is an idea developed analyzing the context. The neighborhood is a kind of community no self-sufficient but offers the collective different types of activities which are recognized as elements of future development of the cities. The attention of the collective is directed to activities inside the block.

WEIGHTLESS project year : 2015

THE WARMEST BLUE There are palms in the corner instead of pelargonium. The proposal is treating only the ephemeral layer of the public space as it was defined in the proposition. The aim is to create scenery of beach and shadow during summer. The elements of the leisure ambient are abstracted to their characteristics important to public space. The Sun with a shadow or cloud at the corner is levitating above the warmest blue (pool).

STUDENT COMPETITION FOR UPGRADING AULA, THE HALL AT FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE, UNIVERSITY OF BELGRADE project year : 2014

AULA Problem solving: occluding the openings between the columns in Aula, the hall at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade. Analyzing the usage of aula and the geometry of its elements the most convenient solution was closing the holes with vertical elements. Used elements are very tiny and selected density so they would accent the columns as main constructive, massive, vertical elements in the hall. They sre used as construction for the exhibitions which take place in the hall.

STUDENT COMPETITION FOR INTERIOR OF MEDIATHEQUE AT INSTITUTE OF MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND GENETIC ENGINEERING project year : 2014

3 IN 1 The aim of the project was to link two separate rooms, mediatheque and office in the way which would save their privacy. It is achieved by experimenting with the wall between the rooms so a part of it became a presentation canvas and made a space for preparing lectures and presentations. The geometry of the room is highlighted using selected materials and furniture, forming one main part and the ones aside.
