How SchoolQuest Supports College and Career Readiness SchoolQuest was created, designed, developed and implemented in 2006 for military students in transition, with a special focus on educational transitions.
Basic Facts about SchoolQuest: All resources are of high quality and they are FREE! Guest information on SchoolQuest is secure and password-protected. Students, professionals and parents use SchoolQuest – with the primary user being parents The State Education Resources feature shows parents, by state and category, important requirements and offerings. MCEC’s SchoolQuest is accessible from anywhere in the world.
“I really do love being able to record my kids’ activities or achievements right away and know that I can recall it for whatever purpose necessary but especially for future college reference.” Parent
College Prep Resources Any 8th-12th grade student and their parents have access to our college prep resources. Unlike school district programs which may stop when a student PCSs, SchoolQuest preserves a student’s work even when they move. Resources include: • College Prep Toolbox: > Scholarship Finder - Search for undergraduate funding > March 2 Success - Helping high school students with both high school and college prep materials > College Options Services - Plan for your bright future using information found here • Library Resources: Easy access to helpful information on military in-state tuition and waivers, college transfer requirements, paying for college, choosing a college, and much more. • Blog Posts: Blogs are posted regularly on topics such as Transition to College, Moving to a New School, Your Child’s Ages & Stages, and other Special Topics.
Your support makes a difference! www.SchoolQuest.org

90 sessions per day.
“Thanks so much for your prompt response. I love using this site and will continue to use it through my kids’ high school years.” Parent
Educational Questions?
Through SchoolQuest, and our Aunt Peggie feature, we respond to our audience questions and comments personally, professionally, privately and efficiently.
Our Find a School feature is our most popular! We provide school-specific information through a real-time data feed from Great Schools. Searches may be conducted by city, state or zip code, military installation or school district, allowing parents to find and contact schools that best fit their child’s needs and interests prior to their move.

When I created this, I was thinking of all the tears I had shed when my mom and dad were deployed, that’s the reason I chose a teardrop to draw, but I know they were going for a reason, to support America which is why I decided to make it into an American flag.

Under The Loose-Leaf Tree I look up as the branches sway. They begin to sing. The sunshine is their backdrop, And they are center stage. The shadows dance and leap around me. The leaves serenade me. They clash together, Like a chattering tambourine. I close my eyes and listen, The beat starts to slow. It is gentle as the willow, Smooth as the petals of a rose. I awoke from my reverie, I tried to touch the sun. The canopy swayed, The song was not done. A large limb was below me, My eyes to the robins. They fluttered and preened. An encore had been called. The branches clapped, And a pace had been set. The wind roared like a tidal wave. I was pulled in, By the assembly of caroling leaves.

The wind died like daisies in the winter. I open my eyes. The backdrop is dark, The spotlight is gone. I was once again, Under the loose-leaf tree.

These are just a few of the challenges faced by military children, all of which can impact their education and their future endeavors. With your help, the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) will continue to offer solutions to these courageous children who have sacrificed so much right alongside their parents in service to our nation. But we can’t do it without you! We count on your support to sustain and grow our programs to serve more military children! Every gift, large or small, can make a profound difference in a child’s life. Your tax-deductible contribution to MCEC supports the entire military family to ensure every military child is college, workforce, and life-ready.
With your help… We will enable more parents to support one another through the Parent to Parent program. We will establish more Student to Student (S2S) programs at every level (elementary, middle, and high school). We will empower more students to develop their leadership skills through S2S and the Frances Hesselbein Student Leadership program. We will provide more schools with Military Student Transition Consultants. We will offer more professional development opportunities to counselors, educators, and school administrators, so they’re able to better understand and effectively address the unique challenges of military and veteran-connected children. We will expand the availability of Tell Me A Story that promotes early literacy and helps families of young children address the difficult issues they face. Thank you so much for your interest in and concern for military and veteran-connected children. The challenges they face have become more complicated as they mirror the challenges their parents may experience. With your help, we can serve the children of those who serve us all by providing them the resources they need to overcome those challenges, maximize their potential, and carve out a promising future. For the almost 2 million children with a parent or loved one serving today in the United States military, this year may bring a deployment of their parent or loved one, an order to move to a new base across the country, or a life changed forever by injury or death. It is these trying circumstances – in these trying times of extended deployments – that remind us of the sacrifices, bravery and courage of the youngest among us: the military child. What is the most important way each of us can honor those who serve our country so bravely? Make a 12-month effort to keep the spotlight on these amazing children and the loved ones who support them.
Here are some ways to do this: Reach Out - Military-connected children are in every school, every town, and every community, so ask around at your workplace, church, or your local recreation center to find military-connected children and learn how you can help.
Keep Standards High - Military-connected children are kids first and military children second. Offer them the same opportunities as every child and maintain the same high expectations for their success.
Know Your Neighbor - Life gets hectic, but take time to meet the military families in your community and learn their story so you can better understand what they are going through.
Stay Flexible - Also remember that deployment of a parent or loved one means the family is operating with one less spoke in the wheel. Offer your help instead of criticism if the child is a few minutes late to soccer practice or forgets the juice on snack day.
Bring Brownies or Offer to Drive to Brownies - Deployment often means the waiting parent becomes a single parent, so help out by offering to carpool to activities, or bring over a home-baked meal or goodies for the family to enjoy.
Be a Mentor - Step up to offer support for the child by becoming a part of their daily life, or serving as a positive role model.
Reassure, Encourage, and Praise - Reassure children that they are safe and loved and doing a good job. Share Your Strengths and Resources - Volunteer to share your webcam so a military family can see their loved one serving abroad, or use your computer’s scanner to e-mail their drawings and photographs. Do Routine Things Routinely - Especially in times of transition and change, children need routine and structure. Maintain their daily routines, and stick to a schedule to ensure balance and comfort in the child’s life.
Support the Deployed Troops - Make an effort with military-connected children to reinforce pride in their parent who is serving, and to recognize the nobility of their service. Help the child send a care package to their parent, or help prepare signs for the homecoming celebration! Military children are your neighbors and your child’s classmates and playmates. They are the children next to you at religious services each week, and the children you see at school and on the playground every day. For their sacrifices, their honor, and their courage, they deserve the best.

Military Child Cultural Experiences I am a military child and have been stationed in Germany for several years. I’ve been to so many places. I’ve been to Spain, Switzerland, Rome, France, and many funny named castles. The castles are very confusing to remember because, they’re all in German. When I went to Spain we saw some cultural Flamenco dancing at a nice restaurant. We also took a trip to the beach and were attacked by darting sand. In a park we took a paddling boat ride but all we did was spin in circles. My family and a friend also went to a play of Beauty and the Beast in Spanish so my mom and her friend were the only ones who understood it. When we went to Rome we saw an old coliseum that was used for a large variety of entertainment. One way of entertainment they would have is letting a wild animal loose in a maze with a prisoner. We attended a mass with the Pope and I did not understand one word he said. Then we enjoyed a historical museum where we listened to a little thing that tells us what we’re looking at. The little things are so fun to rewind over and over again. The trip to Switzerland was for a popular snow sport, skiing. Switzerland was amazing because I learned a new sport and had some laughs along the way. The funniest thing was my brother stopped the chair lilft because his ski came off. The most exhausting part was being taught to ski. After I finished my ski lesson it felt like I had asthma I just couldn’t believe how young some of the skiing kids were. France was my favorite because my family and I saw the classics such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and Venice where the city nearly flooded. My favorite thing was when I fed the pigeons under the Eiffel Tower and more kept on coming and I even ended up with a couple of seagulls fighting for the food. Being a military child has its advantages, and because I live overseas I get to explore the wide world around me. Someday I hope you can explore new places like I have.
