Silverline® Greener Patio Heater 900 IPX4™
Introduction Silverline® products are designed with function, quality and minimal environmental impact as a guide. Emphasis is placed on developing new techniques providing effective and non-toxic effect. As part of our marketing we decided to carry out a scientific study conducted to demonstrate the benefits of our C-Wave™ and ComfortHeating™ technology. Here we show why the Silverline® C-Wave™ technology is better to use compared to the short wave halogen/quartz heaters. The survey includes both theoretical analyzes and calculations and practical measurements performed in the laboratory of the Institute of Energy Sciences at Lund University. Bengt Sundén, Professor and Head of institution led the study.
Silverline® Patio Heaters with C-Wave™ technology Silverline® Patio Heaters use a specially designed QC-Helix™ carbon fibre rod as heating element. The QC-Helix™ rod do not exceed a heat source temperature of about 950°C and creates a wavelength at a maximum intensity of 2.4 microns. This means that the Silverline® Patio Heaters work with longer wavelengths than Halogen IR, ie, traditional IR heaters.
General about IR and comfort heating
health risks in the form of eye damage and skin burns may occur. C-Wave™ far infrared radiation is known to increase blood circulation. The increased blood circulation of the tissues dampens muscle tension, and this is thought to contribute to increased performance capacity. The C-Wave™ technology can therefore be used in preventive purposes, but also to accelerate the healing process. Infrared radiation is non-ionizing. The C-Wave™ far infrared radiation technology has an operating temperature of about 950°C, and a wavelength at maximum radiation intensity of 2.4 microns. Halogen infrared heaters have about 2600°C operating temperature (wavelength at maximum radiation intensity 1.0 microns). Sometimes with Halogen-IR there is an outer glass container made of quartz glass. Depending on the properties of the quartz glass, its temperature may be about 800°C. In order to achieve a specific heating effect of a certain surface the heater design and placing plays an imoprtant role, such as the reflector design which affects the range of proliferation, working temperature which affects the wavelength and intensity of radiation. Depending on design and placement, etc. convective heat transfer can also be essential even if the radiation is in greater proportion. Energetically, all the input electrical energy, or combustion energy in the gas is converted to heat but everything is not radiant heat.
The C-Wave™ far infrared radiation is usually perceived as comfortable while at higher intensities

Efficiency Measurements The measurements were carried out with a Silverline® 900 IPX4™ Patio Heater in the power mode 900W and 450W. Measurements with thermocouple on the unit surface area (housing) was performed after 15 minutes and after two hours of operation. Measuring points around the periphery at seven different heights were chosen. At the high power mode the front side closest to the grid was max about 58°C, while the back was about 46°C. The actual grid may be close to 80°C. These values are quite high near the top of the unit, while near the bottom plate about 10-15 °C lower temperature prevails. (Measured accuracy is better than 0.2°C.) The lower power mode allows the grid to be about 52°C, while the front side gets closest to a maximum of 43°C and the back about 38°C.

Radiation Intensity
The Silverline® Patio Heaters have an IR radiation of low intensity. This radiation is considered to be more comfortably while at higher intensities health risks in the form of eye damage and skin burns may occur.

Calculations for heat loss by natural convection to the surrounding, show that this effect is modest, about 20W. The casing surface has been considered to be polished so that no heat loss by radiation occurs. If, however, it is assumed that the housing emissivity ε=0.5 the radiation from the casing would be of the same order of magnitude as the natural convection. Thus most of the power supplied is converted to efficient Radiation through the C-Wave™ technology.

Figure 1. Radiation intensity as a function of wave length.
Comparison of radiation intensity for Halogen-IR and C-Wave™ technology In Figure 1 the radiation intensity (W/cm3) is shown as a function of Wave length at desired temperatures for a halogen-IR heater and the Silverline® C-Wave™ heater. The areas for short wave, mid wave and long wave radiation have been marked in different colors. A logaritmic scale is used on the vertical axis. The intensity refers to a maximum radiant surface, i.e. corresponding to a so-called black surface.

Silverline Patio Heating gardenSystem® Silverline® Patio Heating gardenSystem® is a series of infrared long wave heaters. The unique and advanced Silverline® C-Wave™ heating technology creates a comfortable and healthy heat radiation which gently warms up muscles and tissue without drying out the skin. The high utilization factor makes the heater environmental friendly since 98% (measured during independent tests by the University of Lund, Sweden) of the input energy is converted into long wave heat radiation! Silverline® Greener Patio Heaters send efficient heat directly to you, not like the butane heaters where the heat streams upwards. The Silverline® Patio Heating gardenSystem® is designed to fit in anywhere and can even resist rain due to the IPX4 classification. All products within the Silverline® Patio Heating gardenSystem® range are manufactured to highest quality levels with all safety certificates for use within the EU. Silverline® Patio Heating gardenSystem® - an obvious choice compared to all other heaters.
