About Me

Memory lasts, moments won’t; but through the lens, both they will. This is what I am doing, this is what I believe in.

PORTRAITS A couple of travel shots with my friends.

STREETS I defined Street photos as“non-stagedshots, everything you see in this chapter are either coincidences, pure luck, or even miracles.

EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY As a student, events are the most common topic for whoever is interested in learning photography. Some wanted only“images”,but I insisted“photographs”,which means, something more than just an image: I want something that looks great, and reminds people in the image of the great memories they have at that time.

As entry level cameras is not always enough, I began to rent equipments. That is when I grow my interests in the history of photography.

Group photos are easy, and difficult.

The yellow circle indicates the difference of two photos: 5 people missing or not. They are shot at the same moment, same position, but with the different angle. That’s why I use a ladder.

67

Two Cameras used for all situations. Ladder used for seeing everyone from above. Suit-raincoat used for laying on mud from low angles.

When I was a kid in elementary school, I was asked to make Slides with more than 15 colors on 6 fonts in the same slide, along with animation each lines.

POSTERS

I tried to make something I consider“pretty”with only black and white, and by using only 3 fonts, and no animations at all. And I got an ZERO point.

Since then, I realized teachers could be wrong.

That’s when I grew my interest on Design.

The poster on the right was to show the elders‘ strange aesthetics in an iconic way. I made this poster to recruit people for our Design team in City Wanderer, saying“If you can fix this poster, JOIN US.”

In Taiwan, we use“countdown posts”on social medias to promote an event by sharing posts with“X days left”to pages and/or groups. It is quite annoying, but effective.

These are some work of mine, made for my school club. Countdown posters used to have cute girls on it, but I wanted to make something different. I want the audiences to be impressed by things they have the sense of identity.

As the audiences are mostly students in the same university, I decided to use buildings’name for the day left to our event. Building 7 for 7 days left, building 6 for 6 days left, etc.

After the posts are published, people started numerous threads on social medias discussing about it.

If a photography club failed to impress people with great photos, how are they going to convince people that joining them will make them great? That is the reason I insist using photos shot ONLY by ourselves, instead of using Stock images. As I wanted to impress whoever sees this poster, I used cinematic ratio, which no one ever tried before.

And it turns out to be impressive. We expected 80 people, but 100+ showed up; that is 25% more than expected.

123

“Less is more.”

This is an experimental work of the Photography school-club I worked. Usually posters will be filled with detailed information of an event, and sometimes too detailed to memorize the event itself.

Therefore, I tried removing all unnecessary elements expect the date, time, and place. I hope it could impress audiences with leaving only an URL (with the word“photography”) and a plain blue background. As for the topic? Posters posted at the first week the semester started are ALL related to welcome parties, that is why there is no topic written on the poster. One can find detailed information, much more than a poster could deliver, if they check on the URL themselves. “Less is more.”

These are some shots of <A MidSummer Night’s Dream>, a drama performed by the Department of Foreign Languages and Applied Linguistics annually. Since my department has nothing to do with photography or art, my seniors used to make posters with Microsoft Office PowerPoint, and take photos needed with their phones. As the leader of design in 2017, I decided to“do something different”, I take all photos needed with a rented DSLR, along with several external strobe-lights. The result was astonishing, to professors and other faculties, and earned our department extra fund for the next year’s play. None of the models were trained.

Things with this kind of studio-liked-photos were sold within 1 hour. That encourages me a lot.
