Viewing the work is witnessing a protracted c o l l i s i o n o f p r o c e s s e s. A n e vo l u t i o n o f m a t t e r. E x p o s e d , concealed, exposed, concealed - continuously. T he consequence of years spent. My histor y merging with the histor y of the elements used. I have no interest in illusionistic ‘texture’ – the work must be its own entity – have its own stor y. Be its own statement. It is an org anic object - a living thing. H i s t o l y s i s – t i s s u e b r e a k s d ow n , m a t e r i a l m e t a m o r p h o s i s ’s, through chaos and control. Destr uction, erosion, decomposition detritus leads to new creation. T he work car ves its own path, moved by forces beyond my hand and control, like rock moved by an unhur ried glacier. I would like to think that my paintings at their best, allow me to contemplate a cycle of existence. Not a beginning with an end but a jour ney where g enesis leads to dissolution, and on once ag ain to g enesis. An ong oing sequence beyond mor tal confines. Something eter nal. Alchemy.
