John Patrick Cunningham is an architect and designer based in New York City. He strives to create place-making work that is spatial, kinetic, and tactile, drawing influence from the natural and anthropological history of place to establish both syntheses and juxtapositions between nature and society. He is fascinated, at a macro scale, by the city as both a theoretical and physical construct, how its density affects its culture, how its appearance affects its experience, and how its evolution is driven by forces beyond our comprehension, and at a micro scale by the phenomenology of space and materials, and how the senses affect memory and experience. He is also an educator, currently holding adjunct faculty positions at the City College of New York, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and the New York Institute of Technology, and has previously taught at the University of Melbourne. email: jpcunning@gmail.com instagram: @the.midwesterner
About the Artist in Residence Program The Marlin and Regina Miller Gallery at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania requests proposals from artists, craftspersons, and designers for the production of an original, temporary, sitespecific installation for our exhibition space. The selected artist (or artist team) will be awarded $10,000. The installation will be on view during the fall of the academic year. Proposed artwork can be realized in any medium and there are no restrictions on form or content. However, proposals that demonstrate innovation and deep, nuanced understanding of contemporary art, craft, or design are preferred. Proposals must be for a site-specific installation and must differ greatly from a solo exhibition. All proposals will be reviewed for overall artistic merit, impact on the experience of our students, feasibility within the established time-frame and budget, artist's demonstration of ability to complete such a project , and the relationship of the project to the gallery's mission.
