THE TRAIL OF BROKEN PROMISES UNITED STATES OF AMERICA RESOULTION NO. 1 A RESOLUTION OF THE TRAIL OF BROKEN PROMISES SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF THE STANDING ROCK SIOUX NATION, AND ALL FEDERALLY AND STATE RECOGNIZED TRIBAL ENTITIES IN OPPOSITION TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE DAKOTA ACCESS PIPELINE PROJECT (DAPL) WHEREAS; the Trail of Broken Promises, an inter-tribal and an inter-racial organization, consisting of United States of America citizens and veterans, including alumni from Arizona State University, Brown University, Haskell Indian Nations University, and the University of Kansas; and, WHEREAS, a majority of Trail of Broken Promises members are also dual citizens of tribal nations including the Blackfeet Nation, Cherokee Nation, Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Citizen Potawatomi Nation, Kaw Nation, Navajo Nation, Muscogee (Creek) Nation, Osage Nation, the Three-Affiliated Tribes (Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation); and, WHEREAS, the Trail of Broken Promises was directly supported by the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, and Shawnee tribal members of Kansas, Indiana, and Ohio, and; WHEREAS, the Trail of Broken Promises members journeyed from the Wakarusa Wetlands in Lawrence, Kansas to Washington D.C. on May 13, 2012, to raise awareness about the protection of Wakarusa Wetlands and all sacred places; and, WHEREAS, the Trail of Broken Promises also advocates to amend the American Indian Religious Freedoms Act (P.L. 95-341) to include the protection of sacred places, and; WHEREAS, the Trail Broken Promises understands the sacredness of water and land to not only tribal nations of the United States of America whose histories, stories, and ceremonial and religious practices are connected to the water and land; but also to all United States of America citizens and tourists who frequent undeveloped places for recreational and spiritual reasons; and, WHEREAS, the Trail of Broken Promises recognizes the petroleum industry as an unsustainable and dangerous practice for all peoples of the world, and; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Trail of Broken Promises hereby fully support the efforts of the Standing Rock Sioux Nation, and all state and federally recognized tribal entities, directly and indirectly impacted by the Dakota Access Pipeline Project, to stop all construction now and forever, and to instead invest our time and resources in to alternative energy projects and the protection of sacred places. PASSED, ADOPTED, AND APPROVED by the Trail of Broken Promises this 20 th day of August 2016.
