Welcome to

MILLIKIN

You’ve spent a long time preparing for Millikin. Millikin has spent a long time preparing for YOU. The Millikin University difference lies not in what students learn, but how students learn. Our hallmark approach to education, known as Performance Learning, moves classroom theory to real-world application through internships, student-run businesses, field-work and research, performance opportunities, and much more. It means Millikin students get to “try on” their careers before graduation, so that they are equipped for professional success. We aren’t preparing our students for graduation day. We’re preparing them for everything beyond it. If you’re considering a college transfer, this is the time and Millikin is the place.

MAKE THE MOVE. MAKE IT MILLIKIN.

NEED-BASED AID

millikin.edu/aid

Student aid from the following resources is awarded based on results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is the only financial aid application required by Millikin for determination of assistance based on financial need. Millikin recommends filing the FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1. The FAFSA must be filed each academic year to determine continued eligibility for student aid programs based on financial need. Millikin's FAFSA school code is 001724.

MILLIKIN TUITION GRANT FUNDS

Grant funds are awarded annually from University resources and endowed scholarship funds to students who demonstrate a financial need at Millikin.

ILLINOIS MONETARY AWARD PROGRAM (MAP) GRANT MAP grants are awarded by the State of Illinois to residents who attend Illinois post-secondary institutions. Eligibility is determined by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) based on FAFSA information and a prescribed formula set annually. Last year, the maximum MAP award was equal to $4,869. File the FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1 to ensure meeting the eligibility deadline.

FEDERAL PELL GRANT AND FEDERAL SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY GRANTS (SEOG) The Federal Pell and SEOG programs provide approximately $4 million annually in grant assistance to Millikin students who demonstrate great financial need. Eligibility is based solely on FAFSA results, and maximum award amounts are set annually by federal guidelines.

LOAN PROGRAMS FEDERAL DIRECT LOANS

Students can borrow up to $5,500 in their first year of attendance under this guaranteed loan program. Annual loan limits are determined by class level and increase to $6,500 for students attaining sophomore standing and up to $7,500 for students attaining junior standing and beyond. Repayment of principal and interest begins six months after the student graduates or ceases to be enrolled on at least a half-time basis. The interest rate is determined each year by federal guidelines, and students demonstrating financial need qualify for an in-school interest subsidy.

PARENT LOANS FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS (PLUS)

This federal loan program allows parents to borrow on behalf of their dependent student who is attending at least half-time. The annual limit for this loan is determined by subtracting the total financial aid received from the student’s total cost of attendance. The loan requires successful completion of a credit check and provides an extended repayment option to assist parents in managing repayment of the loan. Repayment begins 60 days after the loan is fully disbursed. However, parents may request an annual deferment, as long as their student remains enrolled at least half-time. In the event that a parent’s annual credit is denied, students may gain additional funds in unsubsidized loans.

PRIVATE/ALTERNATIVE LOAN The private/alternative loans are commercial, educational loans that may be used to close the gap between your financial aid and cost of attendance. Interest rates will vary from lender to lender. You can view our historical lender list on our loan program page, however, you are not limited to the lenders listed. There are many alternative loan options in the lending community. Personal research is up to each individual or family, as Millikin cannot advise on these products.

STUDENT EMPLOYMENT WORK-STUDY PROGRAMS

Millikin provides a variety of opportunities for part-time campus employment. Most of the on-campus positions are funded as part of the need-based Federal Work-Study Program. Students must have a FAFSA on file with Millikin to determine eligibility for this program.

PAYMENT OPTION MONTHLY INSTALLMENT PLAN

Millikin provides a flexible opportunity for students and families to manage their out-of-pocket expenses each year. A convenient installment plan is offered, in which the total due to the University can be paid over the course of the term. Payments may be made automatically via bank or credit card. Management of the student account is online.

File the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.gov Millikin’s school code for the FAFSA is 001724.
