venues, organizations and creative energy, THE BLOCKS offers an artistic experience you cannot get anywhere else in Utah.

It’s no secret that Utahns love their art! In fact, Utah has a higher performance and visual art attendance rate than any other state in the nation. From galleries and murals to the ballet, a slew of cultural festivals and everything in between, there’s no shortage of artistic opportunities to take advantage of in downtown Salt Lake City. This downtown SLC cultural district, known as THE BLOCKS, is a visionary initiative of the City and County to promote the abundance and vibrancy of our creative community, facilitate partnerships and collaborations, and activate underutilized spaces to establish downtown Salt Lake City as the premier cultural district of the Intermountain West. With a wide variety of

THE BLOCKS spans downtown Salt Lake City’s urban core, running from the west side of 600 West to the east side of 400 East, and the north side of North Temple to the south side of 400 South. A smidgen of the offerings and events located within this conveniently compact area include the El Mac & Retna Ave Maria mural (160 East 200 South), the monthly Third Friday Gallery Stroll, the Utah Arts Festival, Abravanel Hall, the Eccles Theatre, Twilight Concert Series, dozens of cultural festivals and a whole lot more (head over to theblocksslc.com for a comprehensive list). With experiences ranging from intimate to arena, traditional to contemporary, world-renowned to backyard and structured to spontaneous, THE BLOCKS is Salt Lake’s Cultural Core. While the quality of life downtown Salt Lake’s artistic community provides is likely immeasurable, the economic impacts of our city’s art offerings are very much quantifiable and play a key role in our state’s financial well-being. According to a study by Americans for the Arts, 7.4 million 6
