night Ranger

october 26

Heavy hitting rock legends, Night Ranger is set to release their 12th studio album, “ATBPO” (which stands for And The Band Played On), an ode to making music during the covid era. The album will be released on August 6, 2021 via Frontiers Music Srl on CD, Color Vinyl (a variety of limited edition versions), and Digital. The band began writing the album in early 2020, amid the rise of the global pandemic. After narrowing down the song selection and tightening them up to their well-known rock ‘n roll sound, the band hit the studio, although separately, due to the times we are in. Throughout ATBPO we hear Night Ranger continuing their hot streak that kicked off with 2011’s “Somewhere In California”. Ten years on, and two highly acclaimed albums later, “High Road” and “Don’t Let Up”, the band’s latest studio work shows them still burning with that high octane hard rock energy. Night Ranger has always had a knack for killer melodies, intricate instrumentation, and captivating lyrics; ATBPO delivers all of that and more. Having sold over 17 Million albums worldwide, performed across more than 4000 stages, and captivated a radio audience that exceeds 1 Billion, Night Ranger has both epitomized and transcended the arena rock sound and style well beyond that era. With multiple songs having a significant impact on popular culture, Night Ranger continue to grow their ever-evolving fan-base. The band is proof that powerful songs alongside incredibly talented musicians is the perfect formula for continued success. Night Ranger has earned widespread recognition that includes both multi-platinum and gold album status all while leaving their indelible mark on the music industry with a long list of best-selling albums (Dawn Patrol, Midnight Madness, 7 Wishes, Big Life and Man In Motion). Their popularity is fueled by an impressive number of

instantly recognizable hit singles and signature album tracks, including legendary titles such as “Sister Christian”, “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me”, “When You Close Your Eyes”, the anthemic “(You Can Still) Rock In America”, along with “Sentimental Street”, “Goodbye”, “Sing Me Away”, and “Four in the Morning”. Over the years, the band’s music has made notable contributions to and been featured in many different areas of global media and pop culture. Night Ranger was one of the first big “video” bands on MTV, with over ten #1 hit videos. Their songs can be heard in TV Shows like, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, American Dad, Glee, Grey’s Anatomy, Parks & Recreation. The band has also had music featured in video games such as, Rock Band, Guitar Hero and Grand Theft Auto, plus hit Broadway musical Rock of Ages, the Oscar-Nominated film Boogie Nights, and other feature films such as Friday the 13th, Teachers, Sixteen Candles, and The Secret of My Success. Most recently the band’s classic hit “Sister Christian” can be heard in a Dr. Pepper commercial. They can also be heard throughout JBL’s “Hear The Truth” brand campaign. Night Ranger is Jack Blades (bass, vocals), Kelly Keagy (drums, vocals), Brad Gillis (lead & rhythm guitars), Eric Levy (keyboards) and Keri Kelli (lead & rhythm guitars).

nitty gritty dirt band

october 28

With a refreshed lineup and newfound energy, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band remains one of the most accomplished bands in American roots music. Following an extended 50th anniversary tour, the ensemble grew to a six-piece in 2018 for the first time since their early jug band days. The group now includes Jeff Hanna (acoustic guitar, electric guitar), Jimmie Fadden (drums, harmonica), Bob Carpenter (keyboards), Jim Photoglo (bass, acoustic guitar), Ross Holmes (fiddle, mandolin), and Jaime Hanna (electric and acoustic guitar). All six members also sing, and when their voices merge, the harmonies add a powerful new component for the legendary band. And with the father-son pairing of Jeff and Jaime Hanna, the band carries on a country music tradition of blood harmony. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band played their first gig in 1966 in Southern California as a jug band and by 1969 had become a cornerstone of the burgeoning country-rock community. The band secured 16 Top 10 country hits between 1983 and 1990, including three No. 1 singles: “Long Hard Road (The Sharecropper’s Dream),” “Modern Day Romance,” and “Fishin’ in the Dark.” Bernie Leadon, a founding member of The Eagles, played in the band from 1986 to 1988 filling a vacancy by longtime member John McEuen. With so much material to work with, the band is making it a point to shuffle the set lists more often, meaning that this isn’t the same Dirt Band show from years past. “We’re fortunate that we’ve got a deep songbook.”

styx

november 2, 3

The six men comprising Styx have committed to rocking the Paradise together with audiences far and wide by entering their second decade of averaging over 100 shows a year, and each one of them is committed to making the next show better than the last. Styx draws from over four decades of barnburning chart hits, joyous singalongs, and hard-driving deep cuts. Like a symphony that builds to a satisfying crescendo, a Styx set covers a wide range of stylistic cornerstones. From the progressively sweeping splendor that is “The Grand Illusion” to the hunkerdown fortitude of all that is the “Blue Collar Man,” from the majestic spiritual love for a special “Lady” to the seething indictment of preening, primping pageantry for pageantry’s sake of “Miss America,” from an individual yearning for true connection as a “Man in the Wilderness” to a soul-deep quest to achieve what’s at the heart of one’s personal vision in “Crystal Ball,” from the regal reach-for-the-stars bravado of “Come Sail Away” to the grainy all-in gallop of that rugged “Renegade” who had it made, the band draws on an unlimited cache of ways to immerse one’s mind and body in their signature sound. After more than a decade together on the road, this incarnation of Styx is looking forward to performing as many shows as it can as long as it can. “It all comes back to the chemistry,” says bassist/vocalist Ricky Phillips. “The legacy of this band will be that it brought joy to millions of people,” notes drummer Todd Sucherman. Observes keyboardist/vocalist Lawrence Gowan, “We’ve always tried to explain why this is this happening. It’s obviously a multitude of factors, but the main one is that our show is really good! And if it’s really good, they’re going to come to see it again.” Styx hopes it’s a wave that never crests. “Every night, we go on that magic carpet ride together,” observes original bassist Chuck

Panozzo, who joins the band on tour as often as he can. “Music is this amazing force that comes from a higher place. I’m humbled for this band to have the great success that it has,” says co-founding guitarist/ vocalist James “JY” Young. “We just want to keep on doing this,” asserts Tommy. “We want to let life take its course and let this music continue to be the soundtrack to it. And this band will continue to evolve as long as we live and play this music.” The jig is up, the news is out: The Esprit de Styx is alive and well, and now it’s time to see for yourself. Welcome to the Grand Evolution.

The Jets 35 th anniversary tour

november 9

What started as a cover band in the 70s playing Top 40 songs in bars and clubs all over the Midwest became an 80s band sensation with 3 World Tours and 8 Top Ten hits of their own like “Crush on You”, “You Got It All”, “Make it Real”, and “Rocket 2U”. In the beginning, before other Jets members participated, Leroy, Haini, and Rudy were performing, laying the groundwork, and helping to build the famous family band that became The Jets. Today, over four decades later, these three brothers are going strong and going back to their roots to bring the entertainment world the only show of its kind; a combination of the tribute show and the original artist. They brought this concept to Las Vegas in 2019 and established a residency with “Back to the 80s & 90s Experience”. This show takes the audience on a musical journey back through the 80s and 90s eras, using a live band and singing nostalgic hits with nonstop dancing and energy even the younger generation will enjoy. The memories of a better time and the magic of the musicianship on stage create a spellbinding show that will leave you wanting more.

ABOUT TUACAHN AMPHITHEATRE

OUR STORY By Lisa Larson

S

itting with a view of the majestic

present-day Tuacahn Amphitheatre, it’s hard to imagine its primitive beginning. Yet just as this natural amphitheatre was shaped by centuries of scorching heat and desert rain, so too has the history and future of Tuacahn Center for the Arts been molded by winds of change and the shaping power of dreams. Built on the shoulders of Orval Hafen (the original owner of Padre Canyon) as well as the unparalleled drive and ambition of Doug Stewart and Hyrum W. Smith, a seemingly impossible dream blossomed into the reality that exists today. Tuacahn owes its success to the hard work and sacrifice of an ensemble cast who each played an integral role in the history of this magnificent place. It was 1995 when Tuacahn’s debut performance of Utah! danced its way out of the red rocks and into the hearts of the people of southern Utah. After four years telling the complex story of the area’s ancient inhabitants and pioneer

28

settlers, it became increasingly clear Tuacahn needed to shift its strategy. “We’re proud of what we accomplished with Utah!,” says Kevin Smith, Tuacahn CEO. “But after several years of one show it was clear that people wanted to see something new.” The answer came in 1999 in the form of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Tuacahn found itself in the enviable position of huge crowds and sold out houses and Broadway in the Canyon was born. Since that time, Tuacahn has produced more than 60 Broadway shows, taking full advantage of the theater’s outdoor space and making talent, directorial and technical strides year after year. Among the many pivotal moments in Tuacahn’s history, hiring Scott Anderson as the artistic director in 2005 proved to be critical. Anderson’s enthusiasm and ability to cast a wider audition net — including more contracts with Actors fall concerts 2023

ABOUT TUACAHN AMPHITHEATRE Equity League of Regional Theaters — and pushing outside the box in terms of what people thought Tuacahn could produce, yielded some very prosperous results. Tuacahn’s 2008 success as one of the first regional theaters to be granted the professional rights to produce Les Misérables put Tuacahn on the map in a whole new way. The show’s success made it possible to forge several key relationships, including one with Disney Theatrical that led to even more opportunities. In 2010 Tuacahn became the first licensed regional theater outside of Broadway to produce Disney’s Tarzan. Subsequent licensing agreements with Disney to produce The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, When You Wish and more continued to increase Tuacahn’s reputation as a regional theatrical force. “We took a bit of a risk to elevate our production quality,” Anderson says. “We really put our reputation on the line and invested more than we ever had, and it paid off.”

TUACAHN.ORG

SATURDAY MARKET Celebrating the arts in another way, Tuacahn’s Saturday Market features a wide range of local artists, crafts, food and entertainment, mingled with the natural beauty of Tuacahn’s unique setting. “It’s all part of an overall commitment to the community and the arts that are a big part of that community,” Smith says. Tuacahn’s Saturday Market happens each Saturday year-round, weather permitting.

LOOKING AHEAD Thanks to the past and future generosity of Tuacahn’s sponsors and patrons, the creative potential for future seasons knows no bounds. With the last 27 seasons serving as a guide, Tuacahn is excited at the prospect of taking regional theater to even greater heights in the future. Want to know more about Tuacahn’s history?
