PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

T

hank you for joining us for Mel Brook’s Young Frankenstein, the second show of our 25th Anniversary Season. You are sitting in a historic site. The Grand Theatre was original to South High School built in 1932, with our box office serving back then as the Principal’s Office. As you look around the theatre, I hope you’ll take note of its original architectural features, including the small cherubs at the tops of the columns! We are proud to be a part of such a beautiful space.

Mel Brooks’ iconic 1970s film became a Broadway smash in 2007, created by the same team who transformed The Producers into a runaway success. Young Frankenstein was nominated for the Tony, Drama Desk Award, and won the Outer Critics Circle Award. Young Frankenstein has all the panache of the screen sensation with a little extra theatrical flair added. This year’s season at the Grand Theatre is full of excitement! After Young Frankenstein, join us in January for our Backstage Concert Series showcasing the Baby Boomer Comedy Hour and An Evening with Etta James, featuring the talented Dee-Dee Darby Duffin. January also brings the world renowned Sundance Film Festival, making The Grand the largest festival venue in Salt Lake. Spring marks the return of our American Classic Series with Picnic, and then we’ll close with the smash hit, The Full Monty. For dates and show information, please see the enclosed season brochure. Salt Lake Community College and the Grand Theatre have experienced tremendous expansion during the past several years. Our stunning new Center For Arts and Media brings together the latest technology and resources in digital arts education, combines the best teachers in the valley, and puts them all in one environment - sharing, creating, inspiring, and collaborating throughout its 130,000 square feet. The stage has been set for student success here at SLCC. We truly are the community’s college and our many resources - like this wonderful theatre - are here for everyone to enjoy. Please encourage your neighbors and colleagues to join us as we present professional community theatre here at The Grand. We are so glad you are with us tonight. Please enjoy the show! Dr. Deneece G. A NOTE FROM THE GRAND’S DIRECTOR

T

hank you for joining us as we celebrate our 25th anniversary! Young Frankenstein is a hilarious show, based on the comedy classic film by Mel Brooks. Hailed by the American Film Institute as one of the funniest movies of all time, the musical (also written by Mel Brooks) doesn’t disappoint. Enjoy all your favorite moments from the film, as well as hilarious new songs from all your favorite characters. As you enjoy our production, it is easy to see why Young Frankenstein earned so many accolades and awards.

The story follows Dr. Frankenstein (pronounced Fronk-en-steen) as he attempts to complete his grandfather’s masterwork, bringing a corpse to life. Together with his oddly shaped and endearing servant Igor (pronounced “Eye-gore”), his curvaceous lab assistant Inga, his housekeeper Fraü Bleucher, and in spite of his incredibly selfinvolved fiancée Elizabeth, Frankenstein succeeds in creating a monster to rival his grandfather’s. As we look towards the next 25 years, we’re excited to introduce several new programs to make your experience with us even better, like the new Grand Theatre app, offering exclusive behind the scenes looks at our shows, special offers and discounts, and the ability to pick up last-minute tickets on the go. Just search for “The Grand Theatre” on the App Store or on Google Play. We’re also thrilled to introduce our brand new ticketing software, making online purchases faster and easier! For the first time ever, you can now purchase season tickets and flex passes online. Season ticket holders can look forward to some new services as we roll out our new Season Subscriber Rewards Program. Some of the new services include reserved seating at our backstage shows and complimentary concession items at many of our productions. It’s just our way of saying thanks for being a Season Subscriber and supporting The Grand. For more information, or to join our Season Subscriber family, please see the Subscription Desk at the concessions table in the lobby. We hope you enjoy this production as much as we enjoyed bringing it to you! We’re proud of the professional quality theatre we bring the community at an affordable cost. We hope you’ll continue to help support our community by joining us on November 7th as we again host Art With Heart. All proceeds from Art With Heart go to benefit Shriners Hospital for Children, so we really hope you can make it! Thank you and enjoy the show!
