Director’s Note DEAR ODYSSEY PATRON,

Thriller went well in eight locations, and we are pleased to bring you our version of The Nutcracker, The ReduxNut-Cracker, for the second year in a row. Next up is our Fourth Annual Competition/Workshop, Shut Up and Dance with ODT, January 23 – 24, 2015 at the Utah Valley Convention Center. Taught, judged and performed by Odyssey dancers, this is an amazing opportunity to work with and get meaningful critiques from the company. The two days of competition and workshops culminate in a live Odyssey performance. To celebrate our 20th anniversary, we will be creating a brand new, full-length piece - an updated version of Carmen - for performances March 5 to 7, 2015, here at Kingsbury Hall. Our Carmen character will have gotten on a “So You Think You Can Dance” type of show and starts going out with one of the judges. Her former dancer boyfriend doesn’t get on the show and is driven mad with jealousy and rage! It’s amazing how these old stories can be seen as relevant today, when you find the proper context. It should be fun to get that one together, and we hope you will enjoy it, too. In April, we will embark on our tenth annual European tour. May you and your family have a very happy and safe holiday season. Warm wishes, Derryl Yeager

Special Guest JADE CHYNOWETH (Clara) Coming from a family of dance teachers and studio owners, Jade Chynoweth (aka JadeBug) has been dancing since the age of three. She trained for 2 years at Pioneer High School for the Performing Arts, 6 years at Dance Tech Studios in Park City, 4 years at studios in Los Angeles, and various conventions. Her athletic approach to choreography caught the eye of Gev Manoukian from “So You Think You Can Dance.” She has enjoyed his mentorship, working one on one with Gev learning hip hop tricks and style. Jade had the opportunity to assist Mia Michaels, Tyce Diorio, Wade Robson, Dave Scott, Brian Friedman, Cris Judd, Gil Duldulao, and Tessandra Chavez on The Pulse OnTour. She was nominated at the Industry Voice Awards as a Top 10 prodigy in 2013. In October 2013, Jade was a featured dancer in “Dance Spirit” magazine. She started performing in LA as a member of EKidz, a youth hip hop group put together by Dave Scott. Because of her professional relationship with Dave, Jade was asked to be a featured dancer in Mindless Behavior “My Girl Remix” video and “Girls Talkin Bout.” Her first industry job was 2011 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, working with her favorite comedian, Jack Black, and amazing choreographers Napoleon and Tabitha . In 2012, she danced alongside Will Smith in the 2012 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. A year later, she assisted Nappytabs at Monsters of Hip Hop dance convention, and currently performs as a cast member in the “Shadows” live hip hop event. She is a member of Willdabeast’s “Immabeast” and “CollectiveUth” dance groups. Some of Jade’s other industry dance jobs include the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards “Britney Spears Tribute,” X-Factor 2011 & 2012, America’s Got Talent 2011, The Ellen Degeneres Show, 2012 Just Dance Video games, Macy’s Passport 2011, 2013 Homeward Bound Military Tribute, the 2013 Oscars, and various music videos. Jade’s national commercial jobs include the Toyota Corolla 2014 commercial, 2013 Microsoft Surface commercial, 2013 Nike “Voices” commercial, and 2012 Apple IPod commercial. Jade is also an aspiring actress. She would love to use her dance and athletic ability to become a name in the acting world. Her skills were displayed when she booked the co-star role in the 2014 Blockbuster movie“300: Rise of an Empire,” as the 13-year-old Artemisia. Her relationship with Director Zach Snyder led to her latest acting role in the movie Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, hitting theatres in 2016. Jade’s ultimate dream is to become a triple threat. Jade trains in dance, acting, and vocals, and is represented by Diaz Management Group, MSA, and Global Artists Agency in LA.

Special Guest KYLE BAUMANN (Lighting Designer) Kyle is happy to be continuing his adventure with Odyssey as the company’s Lighting Designer. Kyle began designing for Odyssey back in 2011 for Thriller, presented at Tuacahn Center for the Arts. The following year, he designed Thriller once again for Tuacahn, as well as at the Austad Theater, on the campus of Weber State University in Ogden, and Kingsbury Hall in Salt Lake City. He then moved on from the zombies and vampires to the company’s 2013 Romeo and Juliet, Dance Fever, Thriller and finished out the year with the premiere of The ReduxNut-Cracker. He is currently in his sixth season as Lighting Director for Tuacahn Center for the Arts. Kyle started working with Tuacahn as an intern while attending Tuacahn High School in 2002 and has been working professionally as a Master Electrician/Lighting Designer ever since. He has had the privilege of working with such big name artists as Foreigner, Kansas, CCR, Styx, Peter Frampton, .38 Special, Huey Lewis and the News and many more. He resides in St. George, Utah with his lovely wife, Samantha, baby girl Anya Kay, and his newborn son.
