Odyssey Dance Theatre – 5

Director’s Note DEAR ODYSSEY PATRON,

What another amazing year for Odyssey, and it’s hard to believe that we are now in our 18th season of Thriller! When we first produced this show, we had sold only 50 tickets for four mere performances four days away from opening. Now we are doing 24 performances at Kingsbury alone, and we have two companies of the show touring Utah; one company to Salt Lake and Ogden, and the other to Park City, Provo, Logan, Idaho Falls, Richfield and Tuacahn in St. George! Although we do new pieces in the show every year, it is amazing how many of the original pieces we put together still remain the staples of the production. We had the chance to tour Europe again this last spring for the ninth consecutive year, and we’ve won Best of State Dance Company for the ninth year in a row! Be sure to buy your tickets to our upcoming shows: The ReduxNut-Cracker, December 17–23, an updated version of The Nutcracker (yes - you read right). For the second year, ODT brings this production to life in the present day, with the original Tchaikovsky score re-imagined and arranged in a pop/hip-hop style! And Carmen – today, March 5–7, 2015, is an ancient story with a modern twist! Carmen as you’ve never experienced it before, set in the world of the TV show “So You Think You Can Dance” - with an amazing mix of music, utilizing the best of Bizet and Contemporary Pop classics. Yes, this story of Love, Passion, Betrayal, Obsession and Revenge is an old one, but mirrored in the headlines of today. Odyssey Dance Theatre’s version of Carmen will be a new contemporary choreographic masterpiece! Thank you for making it possible for us to get this far—our 21st season! It’s been quite a journey, and we invite you to continue on this incredible “odyssey” with us for many years to come. Best wishes, Derryl
