back to PTC for our 24/25 Season! We open with a show I’ve been dying to produce for you for several years, as originally written for Broadway.
This season has been in the works for years, as we finally acquired several well-known and wellloved titles, which while exciting also come with challenges. We love these shows for a reason, they are terrific, memorable songs, engaging stories, and we’re excited to present the shows you fondly remember while putting a PTC spin on them. It is a director’s job to use their vision to interpret the material and to make the show come alive. I also want to make the shows fresh by creating a version for this theatre, for this audience, at this moment. I want to work with the actors that have been cast for this production to bring their strengths to the storytelling and create our version of this show.
I am pleased to share this very special version of Jersey Boys, created just for you. Enjoy.
Karen Azenberg Director & Choreographer
MEET OUR NEW MANAGING DIRECTOR
Hello Friends,
I joined PTC in August 2024, and in the past few weeks, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many of you. For those I haven’t yet connected with, here’s a bit about my journey.
I’m originally from Guyana, South America, and my path to the arts has been unconventional. In high school, I focused on science and technology, leading my school’s Space Club to victory in an international space competition. In short, I was (and still am) a proud nerd. I went on to study business at Boston University, which eventually brought me closer to the arts, though I didn’t realize it at the time. My early career was in the corporate world, but I soon found myself drawn to nonprofit work, volunteering extensively in my community.
This blend of business expertise and a passion for service led me to The Theater Offensive, an LGBTQ arts organization in Boston, where I served as Managing Director. It was there that I truly discovered the transformative power of theatre. I saw how it creates a safe space for young people to share their stories and inspire one another, showing how theatre can unite communities and bring shared experiences to life.
My journey then took me to New York City, where I served as Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Director at Theatre Communications Group, a national organization supporting nonprofit theatres across the U.S. More recently, I’ve had the privilege of serving as interim Executive Director at the Broadway Advocacy Coalition in New York and as Managing Director at East West Players in Los Angeles.
Though I didn’t start out in theatre, it has profoundly shaped my life, teaching me lessons in empathy, humility, and the joy that comes from meaningful work.
Thank you for supporting live theatre. Your presence truly makes a difference!
Sincerely,
Adrian Budhu Managing Director

He lives in New York City and hopes to die in his sleep, surrounded by his loved ones and their attorneys.
RICK ELICE (Book) co-wrote Jersey Boys (winner 2006 Tony Award, 2007 Grammy Award and 2009 Olivier Award for Best Musical) with the great Marshall Brickman; The Addams Family; Peter and the Starcatcher (winner of five 2012 Tony Awards); and The Cher Show (currently on tour in the UK). Heartfelt thanks to those whose theatre work makes him grateful for the day he was born: Sondheim, Stoppard, Bennett, Prince, Fosse, Robbins, Nichols, Nunn, Laurents, Stone, Taymor, Papp, Schumacher, Schneider, David, Strong, Gaudio, Valli, McAnuff, Trujillo, Timbers, Coyne, Brickman, and, eternally, Roger Rees. Rick thinks about them a lot. He never thought about Jersey much. He does now.
BOB GAUDIO (Composer) wrote his first hit, “Who Wears Short Shorts,” at 15, for the Royal Teens, and then went on to become a founding member of the Four Seasons and the band’s principal songwriter. He also produced the hit “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” for Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand (Grammy nomination, Record of the Year) as well as six albums for Diamond, including The Jazz Singer. Other producing credits include albums for Frank Sinatra, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and the soundtrack for the film Little Shop of Horrors. Several songs co-written with Bob Crewe have been cover hits for such artists as the Tremeloes (“Silence is Golden”), the Walker Brothers (“The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore”) and Lauryn Hill (“Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”). With his wife, Judy
WHO’S WHO
Parker, Gaudio produced and co-wrote the Who Loves You album for the Four Seasons and one of Billboard’s longest-charted singles (54 weeks), “Oh, What a Night.” A high point in his career came in 1990 when, as a member of the original Four Seasons, Gaudio was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 1995, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, which hailed him as “a quintessential music-maker.” To this day, Bob Gaudio and Frankie Valli still maintain their partnership...on a handshake.
BOB CREWE (Lyricist) “New York was pregnant in the fifties,” says Bob Crewe, “gestating with possibilities.” Crewe and music partner Frank Slay became independent writer-producers when the category hadn’t yet been invented. In 1957 they wrote and produced “Silhouettes” for The Rays, which skyrocketed to #1. Suddenly, producers in demand, they launched Freddie Cannon’s “Tallahassee Lassie” and Billy & Lillie’s “Lah Dee Da.” Crewe’s 1960’s unprecedented producing success with The Four Seasons birthed a new sound, striking a major chord in American pop. “Sherry, “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Candy Girl,” “Ronnie” – all smashes! When lead Frankie Valli
demanded a solo turn, Crewe and Bob Gaudio wrote (and Crewe produced) ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” which eventually became the century’s fifth mostplayed song. Crewe ran hot with artists from Vicki Carr, Oliver and Lesley Gore to Mitch Ryder, co-writing with Charles Fox the soundtrack for Jane Fonda’s film, Barbarella. Then his own Bob Crewe Generation exploded with Music to Watch Girls By. In 1972 Bob was in L.A., where he revived Frankie Valli with “My Eyes Adored You” by Crewe and Kenny Nolan. They also co-wrote Patti LaBelle’s “Lady Marmalade” (#1, July ’75), which was a hit again on the soundtrack of Moulin Rouge (#1, June ’01)...David Ritz

FOR YOUR INFORMATION
Emergency Exits are indicated to your right and left in the theatre. Please identify the exit closest to your seat location in case an emergency occurs.
Videotaping, photographing, or other video or audio recording of this production is strictly prohibited. This includes photos taken by phone.
SMART WATCHES, CELL PHONES, AND CAMERAS ARE DISRUPTIVE; even when set on silent or vibrate, they may disrupt wireless sound equipment. Please leave your electronics in the car, or turn them off entirely while in the theatre.
TEXTING is disturbing to the actors and your fellow audience members. Do not text during the performance.
If you might need to be reached during a performance, leave your exact seat location with the box office. The number for emergency calls is 801-581-6963.
We have a hearing assistance system that allows our hardof-hearing patrons to sit in any seat in the house. Collateral required; inquire at coat check.
We welcome all persons. Those with special requirements should request assistance in advance.
Refreshments are not permitted in the auditorium, but are available in the main floor lobby pre-show, and during intermission. Bottled water and approved PTC drink
containers are allowed in the theatre.
University of Utah is a non-smoking campus, both inside and outside all buildings.
Evening performances are at 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; Saturday matinees at 2:00 p.m. Please avoid arriving after curtain time. To avoid disturbing other patrons, latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the House Manager. This policy has been instituted at the request of many of our patrons.
Season ticket holders may exchange their tickets for another performance of the same play by notifying the box office at least 48 hours prior to the performance date. Tickets are non-refundable.
You may donate your tickets, helping yourself and Pioneer Theatre Company. If you are unable to attend a production, make a tax-deductible gift of your tickets to the Theatre so that we may re-sell them. Call the box office at least 48 hours prior to the performance date.
The Patron Services staff will serve you from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. During the run of a show, the box office is open extended hours Monday through Saturday.
