Director’s Note As a fan of Barbara Stanwyck, I appreciated the original film version of Christmas in Connecticut. As a lover of the holiday season, I was thrilled to dive into the charms, comic delights, and white-Christmas magic that populate this story. The four writers of this work started working on the project during quarantine and have answered the call-to-action in a time when we can all especially benefit from surrounding ourselves with joy, laughter, and beautiful music. Still, I was not prepared for how relevant a new musical adaptation of this film might be. The idea of a celebrated columnist who turns out to be nothing like the Martha Stewart-esque persona she has put forward is relatable in our current social media-filled landscape, where numerous formats provide the opportunity for folks to craft an identity far from their own. The challenge to carve out one’s own path amidst the pressure to conform to societal expectations continues to speak to the moment. Perhaps the greatest challenge in any season is to forge your own path while continuing to respect and celebrate the different paths of others—and that feels especially powerful during the holidays. Who’s Who CYNTHIA JOHNSON (Hair & Makeup Designer) has been a theatrical wig designer for 25 years. She attended SLCC and Weber State University, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre/Design and Entrepreneurship. Cindy has been a licensed cosmetologist for twenty years. She has designed for Ogden Musical Theatre, The Grand Theatre, Sandy City, Draper City, Hale Centre Theatre (10 years), UMT, Viva La Diva productions, and many other local and national theatres. Cindy was the owner of Hair Love Wigs Salons for many years, but her most recent wig work can be seen in the movie Dumplin and Joe Bell, currently on Netflix. Videotaping, photographing, or other video or audio recording of this production is strictly prohibited. This includes photos taken by phone. SMART WATCHES, CELL PHONES, AND CAMERAS ARE DISRUPTIVE; even when set on silent or vibrate, they may disrupt wireless sound equipment. Please leave your electronics in the car, or turn them off entirely while in the theatre. TEXTING is disturbing to the actors and your fellow audience members. Do not text during the performance. If you might need to be reached during a performance, leave your exact seat location with the box office. The number for emergency calls is 801-581-6963. We have a hearing assistance system that allows our hardof-hearing patrons to sit in any seat in the house. Collateral required; inquire at coat check. We welcome all persons. Those with special requirements should request assistance in advance. Refreshments are not permitted in the auditorium, but are available in the main floor lobby pre-show, and during intermission. Bottled water and approved PTC drink

containers are allowed in the theatre. University of Utah is a non-smoking campus, both inside and outside all buildings. Evening performances are at 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; Saturday matinees at 2:00 p.m. Please avoid arriving after curtain time. To avoid disturbing other patrons, latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the House Manager. This policy has been instituted at the request of many of our patrons. Season ticket holders may exchange their tickets for another performance of the same play by notifying the box office at least 48 hours prior to the performance date. Tickets are non-refundable. You may donate your tickets, helping yourself and Pioneer Theatre Company. If you are unable to attend a production, make a tax-deductible gift of your tickets to the Theatre so that we may re-sell them. Call the box office at least 48 hours prior to the performance date. The Patron Services staff will serve you from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. During the run of a show, the box office is open extended hours Monday through Saturday. No children under age 5 are admitted to performances.
