WELCOME Happy New Year, and welcome to A DOLL’S HOUSE, PART 2 by Lucas Hnath. Salt Lake Acting Company starts the new year by rededicating ourselves to SLAC’s mission:
To engage and enrich community through brave contemporary theatre. This mission statement defines us, and it’s joyfully at the heart of everything we do. Let’s break it down. To engage and enrich community: Our community (audience, artists, anyone that walks through our door) is the heartbeat of this organization and breathes life into this place. I love it when our audience tells us about the significant impact SLAC makes in their lives. One of my favorite quotes is from longtime subscriber Willamarie Huelskamp. She says, “Salt Lake Acting Company makes living in Utah bearable.” Another quote that touches my heart is from another longtime subscriber, Peter Gibbs. I was helping him with the chair lift to the Upstairs Theatre, and he said, “Take me to heaven, that’s what I call SLAC, heaven.” Peter was the first ‘new subscriber’ I obtained when hired to do so in 1998. High accolades, such as these, confirm that SLAC is a sparkling jewel in our community. Through brave contemporary theatre: Our definition of theatre goes beyond the plays we produce. Theatre means creating the right environment that supports the play’s process; that helps SLAC’s staff to succeed in their positions; that leaves our audiences looking forward to coming back. I hope you enjoy A DOLL’S HOUSE, PART 2, directed by Nancy Borgenicht. In remembering 1998, Nancy Borgenicht and Al Nevins hired me to obtain and retain SLAC Subscribers. Who knew that 22 years later, I would be running the company and have the honor of asking Nancy to direct this play? It speaks to the endless possibilities that are Salt Lake Acting Company.
