Welcome SLAC’s staff proudly welcomes you to Saturday’s Voyeur 2019, the concluding chapter of our phenomenal 48th season. In approaching programming for this year, we sought to bring light and unity to a culture that is becoming more and more divided. As a result, we laughed and cried at cancer in A Funny Thing..., howled with The Wolves, celebrated our first decade of professional children’s theatre with Pinkalicious, savored each complex layer of The Cake, witnessed the power of movement in Silent Dancer, and embraced this peculiar place we call home with Saturday’s Voyeur. Our 49th season promises to be one of our most exciting yet. For starters, we are proud to have the first-ever lineup of female directors in our theatre’s history. All six productions are Utah premieres that will continue to challenge archaic ideology and to embrace the unexpected. We hope you’ll join us. Thank you for being here! We couldn’t do this with you. ALLEN NEVINS (Playwright) has been writing for SATURDAY’S VOYEUR the last 30 years.

He came to the Salt Lake Acting Company in 1989 as the Literary Manager and in 1990 he formed a writing and business partnership with Nancy Borgenicht. In 1993, their partnership, Saturday’s Voyeur, Inc., became the management company and the Executive Producers of the Salt Lake Acting Company. As Executive Producers they expanded and re-built the Upstairs Theatre, designed and built the Chapel Theatre as an alternative performing space, unionized SLAC’s acting pool and re-instituted SATURDAY’S VOYEUR as the annual summer fundraiser for the Salt Lake Acting Company. In their 12 years as Executive Producers, they produced over 70 full-length plays, 40 public readings, and developed multiple new works for the American stage. Since his retirement in 2005 as an Executive Producer, he has focused on maintaining SATURDAY’S VOYEUR as an outlet for discourse, dissent, irreverent humor, cheap shots at elected officials; and of course, political in-correctness in all its forms.

NANCY BORGENICHT (Lyricist) has been an integral part of the Salt Lake Acting

Company since 1974. She conceived and created SATURDAY’S VOYEUR in 1978. She is extremely proud of SATURDAY’S VOYEUR’S place in the community over these forty plus years. Borgenicht is working on the continued development of STAG’S LEAP, a Pulitzer Prize winning book of poems by Sharon Olds and will be directing A DOLL’S HOUSE, PART 2 for SLAC in February 2020.

FORM OF A GIRL UNKNOWN By Charly Evon Simpson

October 16–November 17, 2019 Directed by Melissa Crespo

She is twelve years old, she is wise, and she is fascinated – by A Midsummer Night’s Dream; by her changing body; by the story of the children killed in the woods. With humor, magic, blood, and fire, FORM OF A GIRL UNKNOWN is not your typical coming-of-age story.

The whole family that is, except for young Jimmy Biddle, the most organized second grader on planet Earth. But when Jimmy draws a blank in art class during the last week of school, it turns out Pete is the perfect pal to help him out. Together, they set out on a mission to help Jimmy conquer second grade art, and along the way, they both learn a little something new about inspiration.

University Professional Theatre Program MATTHEW TRIPP: I am so grateful Saturday’s Voyeur is my first professional production!

I learned a lot in the MTP during my freshman year at the University of Utah and it’s great to be able to apply those skills so soon. This show has taught me a TON already, and I’m learning more every day! JACOB WEITLAUF: As a student currently working toward a degree in musical theatre, it is an invaluable opportunity to be able to put my training into action in a professional environment. FIONA HANNON: I have so much gratitude for the entire SLAC community who let me to hop on SATURDAY’S VOYEUR this year! Working at a professional theatre as a student is giving me invaluable training. Experience is the best teacher! Each day I am eager to work on a show with passionate professionals who will undoubtedly help me learn and grow, both as a person and a performer. What a wild and extraordinary gift this show has been!
