VOCAL POINT AND NOTEWORTHY MARCH 19, 2016 7:30 PM VOCAL POINT

They have percussion without drums. They have a rhythm section without a bass. The only instruments on stage belong to the nine voices of the nationally renowned a cappella group Vocal Point. Hailing from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, Vocal Point gives stunning, high-energy performances that won them the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) and a faithful following throughout the world. The group competed on NBC’s The Sing-Off in 2011. Each week, Vocal Point and other a cappella groups performed and were judged by recording artists Ben Folds, Sara Bareilles, and Shawn Stockman. Vocal Point finished as one of the top five final groups on this nationally televised competition. With a varied repertoire and a wide range of vocal possibilities—and seeming impossibilities—these crowd-pleasers have it all: rock, pop, country, jazz, and R&B all mixed into the time of your life. This nine-man group takes the songs you hear on the radio, retools them, and delivers a new rendition, complete with all the complex instrumentation done entirely with their mouths. Their family-friendly show is a toe-tapper, and their performance is a showstopper. Each Vocal Point member displays musical ability, creativity, and stage experience—a combination which adds up to original, skillful, and spirited performances. “Well that’s about the most professional group at the collegiate level anywhere,” says Deke Sharon, founder of the Contemporary A Cappella Society of America (CASA) and Vocal Producer of NBC’s The Sing Off. “Seriously, that’s as close as anyone could ever get to being a rock star.”

VOCAL POINT AND NOTEWORTHY NOTEWORTHY Noteworthy, BYU’s top female a capella ensemble, delivers a power-packed concert that combines vocal percussion, humor and a tight harmony. Noteworthy has appeared on NBC’s hit television show, “The SingOff,” and was crowned the International Championship of Collegiate A Capella (ICCA) champion in 2007. Noteworthy’s varied repertoire includes everything: rock, pop, country, jazz, R&B, spiritual, and other musical styles, which make them a crowd favorite. The performers take the songs from the radio, retool them, and deliver a new rendition, mimicking complex instrumentation with just their mouths. Their powerful, energetic concerts are full of humor and heart, class and charm. Each of the nine Noteworthy members display musical ability, creativity, and stage experience—resulting in original, skillful, and spirited performances.

AIR SUPPLY

MARCH 26, 2016 7:30 PM

Graham Russell & Russell Hitchcock met on May 12, 1975, at rehearsals for “Jesus Christ Superstar” in Sydney, Australia; they became instant friends with their common love for The Beatles and, of course, singing. In 1980 “Lost in Love” became the fastest selling single in the world, leaping to the top of all of the charts and was named Song of the Year. Seven top-five singles later, Air Supply at that time had equaled The Beatles’ run of consecutive top five singles. The albums Lost in Love, The One That You Love, Now & Forever, and The Greatest Hits sold in excess of 20 million copies. The trademark sound of Russell Hitchcock’s soaring tenor voice and Graham Russell’s simple yet majestic songs created a unique sound that would forever be known as Air Supply.

REO SPEEDWAGON APRIL 2, 2016 7:30 PM Formed in 1967, signed in 1971, and fronted by iconic vocalist Kevin Cronin since 1972, REO Speedwagon is a band where the main constant over the decades is a never-ending desire to give their all to their fans, year in and year out.

Formed loosely in the late ‘60s at college in Champaign, IL, REO (named after the precursor to the light truck) rode to gigs in station wagons, hopping from small gigs to even tinier gigs, just to get their name out. It worked, as fans quickly realized there was much more going on here than your average college party band. By the early ‘70s, the band’s unrelenting drive, as well as non-stop touring and recording, jump-started the burgeoning rock movement in the Midwest. It carved a path that was eventually followed by STYX, Kansas, Cheap Trick and more. Platinum albums and freeform FM radio staples such as “Ridin’ The Storm Out” followed, setting the stage for 1980’s explosive Hi Infidelity. REO rode the top of the charts with a RIAA-certified 22 million albums sold in the U.S. and 40 million around the globe, with a string of gold and platinum records and international hit singles.

PROFESSIONAL BULL RIDERS APRIL 8 & 9, 2016 8:00 PM

This is not a rodeo. We don’t rope calves, and we don’t chase barrels.

This is bull riding, and the first rule is just to stay alive. The Professional Bull Riders was created in 1992 when a group of 20 visionary bull riders broke away from the traditional rodeo scene seeking mainstream attention for the sport of professional bull riding. The combination of raw sport and quality entertainment has propelled the PBR to strong growth in live attendance as well. The PBR attracts over 1.5 million live event attendees each year with its multi-tiered event structure. Professional bull riding is a fierce, rough, and grueling sport with roots deeply imbedded in American culture. It’s America’s original extreme sport.

HEART

APRIL 15, 2016 8:00 PM

Sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson first showed the world that women can rock when their band, Heart, stormed the charts in the ‘70’s with hits like “Crazy on You,” “Magic Man,” “Barracuda,” “Straight On,” and so many more. Not only did the Wilson sisters lead the band, they wrote the songs and played the instruments too, making them the first women in rock to do so. Heart continued topping the charts through the ‘80’s and ‘90’s with huge hits like “These Dreams,” “Alone,” “What About Love,” “If Looks Could Kill,” “Never,” and a string of other hits that showcased the sisters’ enormous talents as musicians and singers. Nearly 35 years after their first big hit, Ann and Nancy Wilson were back in the Billboard Top 10 in 2010 with Heart’s “Red Velvet Car” album, and a Top 5 DVD (“Night at Sky Church”).

As individuals, the sisters have also achieved significant success. Ann sang on songs that were both chart successes and motion picture themes, like “Almost Paradise” from Footloose, “Best Man in the World” from Goldenchild, and “Surrender to Me” from Tequila Sunrise, while Nancy composed and performed the scores to a half dozen motion pictures including the award winning “Jerry Maguire” and “Almost Famous.” Although they got their start in Seattle and have become global phenomenons, Ann and Nancy owe much of their success to Hollywood which is where they lived when they recorded the songs at the landmark Capitol Records building that earned them their first string of #1 singles, and where they filmed all of their hugely successful videos. Along the way, music by Ann and Nancy Wilson and their band Heart has sold more than 35 million albums, sold out arenas worldwide, and found its way into the soundtrack of American life through radio, motion pictures, television, and associations with branded sponsors. Today, songs made famous by Heart are heard in every aspect of contemporary culture.

THE BEACH BOYS

APRIL 28 7:30 PM & APRIL 29, 2016 8:00 PM

You can capsulize most pop music acts by reciting how many hits they’ve had and how many millions of albums they’ve sold. But these conventional measurements fall short when you’re assessing the impact of The Beach Boys. To be sure, this band has birthed a torrent of hit singles and sold albums by the tens of millions. But its greater significance lies in the fact that it changed the musical landscape so profoundly that every pop act since has been in its debt. Happily for us all, The Beach Boys continue to create and perform with the same bold imagination and style that marked their explosive debut over 50 years ago. And now in 2013, their Capitol Records release, Sounds of Summer (RIAA certified triple platinum with over three million in sales and climbing), and it’s companion The Warmth of the Sun marks a resurgence in Beach Boys interest that has again rocked the world.
