Awaken the lost memories deep in the soul Let the forgotten experience be re-animated Let the hues of ink gather your thoughts Let the spirit of calligraphy flow in your body Let your heart be shadeless and open to a boundless horizon – LIU Qi 作品介绍 About the Work 《临池舞墨》是广东现代舞团最受欢迎的保留剧目之一。 Beyond Calligraphy is one of the most popular repertoire of Guangdong Modern Dance Company. Upon Calligraphy, Episode 1, is a poem of movements, which are developed from the stylistic essence of different Chinese scripts. It comprises five dances named after the five different script styles in the Chinese calligraphy. Since the debut performance in 2005, the work has had more than 100 performances all around the world. The work has also won awards for Liu Qi and the Guangdong Modern Dance Company on outstanding choreography, lighting design, performance as well as production. Episode 2 Ink Wash Landscape, pays homage to the spiritual essence of ink wash painting. The linear logic of development in the original work, which comments on the cold, emotionless mode of communication in the digital era, is resolved in balance and harmony between the water and ink. The Washington Post describes it as “full of meditative grace, sharp, cutcrystal physicality and languid dignity.”
