The Story of Everything The Story of Everything is the culmination of Hawaii Poet Laureate Kealoha’s lifetime work, as he puts it himself. With this epic, Kealoha shares his love of science, as he tackles the vast subject and complexities of our origins and life itself. The Story of Everything is an original creation story based on multiple knowledge systems, starting with the Big Bang Theory (Kealoha graduated in Nuclear Physics from MIT) and takes the audience on a journey spanning 13.7 billion years through the science of how we got to be here as human beings. It explores the question “Where do we come from?”, not only us as human beings but also our earth and universe, and takes us on a whirlwind of science, story, and culture on a journey to the present – humans today and our stewardship of the earth and of each other. The work combines poetry, storytelling, music, Hawaiian chanting, dance, and visual arts and inspires responsibility for our planet and our actions as it pertains to global climate change. The Story of Everything was one of the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation Community Inspiration Pilot projects. It premiered in Honolulu, Hawai‘i in 2015.

Artist Bios Kealoha

“I can picture this island boy at MIT studying nuclear fusion. Even when you sit with Kealoha, it’s as if he himself is a source of energy… With his positive messaging, his boundless energy, and his ability to lead and mentor people of all ages, we can’t wait to see what he’s going to do.” --Leslie Wilcox, President/CEO of PBS Hawaii Kealoha has the distinction of being the first (and only to date) Poet Laureate of Hawai`i. As an internationally acclaimed poet and storyteller, he has performed throughout the world -- from the White House (twice) to Honolulu’s `Iolani Palace, from Brazil to Switzerland. He is the first poet in Hawai`i’s history to perform at a governor’s inauguration, and in 2010 he was selected as a master artist for the National Endowment for the Arts. “Kealoha is more than just a poet, he is a one-man poetry movement. He practices what he preaches about mindfulness and positivity in art, and his openness of his spirit, both onstage and off, is a true gift to our community.” --Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz, 2011 NEA Fellow and author of Words in Your Face: A Guided Tour Through Twenty Years of the New York City Poetry Slam He represented Hawai`i at the National Poetry Slam multiple times and performed on the finals stage 4 times, was ranked in the top ten of the nation’s best poets in 2007, and was honored as a “National Slam Legend” in 2010. Kealoha is the founder of HawaiiSlam, Youth Speaks Hawai`i (2-Time International Champions), and First Thursdays (the largest registered poetry slam in the world with 500+ in attendance). He is renowned for his teaching abilities, from elementary to middle to high school to college kids, from kids at risk to gifted students. He is the first recipient of the Native Arts & Cultures Foundation Inspiration Award, which provided commissioning funds for him to create his full-evening epic work, The Story of Everything, inspired by science, multiple knowledge systems including Hawaiian creation chant, dance, music, and poetry. He takes audiences –and the earth - on the journey from the Big Bang to today. In the literature world, his poetry has been published by Bamboo Ridge, Real Word Magazine, and the Honolulu Weekly. Kealoha has shared the stage with leading artists Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Willie Nelson, Damian “Junior Gong” Marley, Jason Mraz, Michael Franti (Spearhead), Don Carlos, Medusa, and countless slam poetry stars. He graduated with honors from MIT with a degree in Nuclear Physics (and a minor in writing), served as a business consultant in San Francisco, and played around as a surf instructor prior to becoming a professional poet in 2002. Visit www.KealohaPoetry.com for more information.

Clap, sing, strum, stomp, and otherwise ring in your holiday season with the ninth annual Lower Lights Christmas concerts, returning to Kingsbury Hall for a fourth year.
