U VETS

At the University of Utah, a “veteran” is any student, faculty or staff member, or alumnus of the University of Utah who served or serves in the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, or National Guard, on active duty or the reserves, for any length of time, and has not been separated from these services with a dishonorable discharge. A “U Vet” is any student, faculty or staff member, or alumnus of the University of Utah who is a veteran. The U’s Veteran Support Center (VSC) serves “student veterans,” a collective term for U Vets, veterans’ spouses and children attending the U, and contracted ROTC students.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to improve and enhance the individual and academic success of veterans, service members, and their family members who attend the university; to help them receive the benefits they earned; and to serve as a liaison between the student veteran community and the university.

OUR VISION

The vision of the University of Utah Veterans Support Center (VSC) is a campus comprising the proportionally greatest number of student veterans, who consistently have the highest retention and graduation rates, who receive the most comprehensive services, resources, and support on and off campus, and who are supported by the premier veterans support center in the nation.

WHAT WE DO

The VSC is a “one stop shop” for student veterans to find services, support, advocacy, and camaraderie. Some of the VSC services include VA educational benefits assistance, VA benefits and health services counseling, free computer and printing resources, free tutoring vouchers and peer support, as well as a lounge, study area, refreshments, veterans’ events, and “SWAG” (U Vet clothing and gear). Find out more and support our mission at veteranscenter.utah.edu
