PROJECT BRIEF

PROJECT BRIEF 1.

AIM

This project aims to achieve a better economical cycle within the small city of Pasir Panjang at the outskirts of Sitiawan. Boosting the overall income of the city for future developments and overall growth by providing a proper medium for smaller businesses to strive and better facilities to cater to incoming tourists and visitors.

2. INTRODUCTION

This project takes place not too far from the shoreline of Pasir Panjang located in between the fishing village and Tua Pek Gong Temple. While the fishing village is still mostly constructed on stilts, it doesn’t have a proper facility to sell their fresh catches other than the Sitiawan market located in the city centre which is not convenient for them. That’s where this project comes in to help the fishing village, by providing a fish market with a modern touch just adjacent to the source. Since the well renowned Tua Pek Gong Temple sits on the other side of the site which attracts visitors and tourist across the nation. This is also an opportunity to provide facilities with better environment to sustain tourists as there are not many other facilities within the area that could keep tourists occupied after visiting the temple.

3. PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

These are the main activities and facilities provided in this project. ● Fish Market ● Seafood Restaurants ● Local street food stalls and cafes ● Roof garden ● Retail units (Fashion, Gadgets, Specialty Stores, Department Stores) ● Hotel Type Accommodation Units ● Performance Space

DESIGN PROCESS

Clustered Blocks & Areas As the nearest adjacent landmark to the selected site Tua Pek Gong has a clustered arrangement of its own designated buildings for its own respective purposes. It’s logical to design something similar to this layout to conserve the surrounding contextual designs.

Irregular Linear Patterns This pattern is found at the Fishing Village located right beside the selected site. It features a linear arrangement with units of various sizes and shapes with a path running down the center of the linear patterns.
