IN PHOTOS YEAR GROUP ACTIVITY TRIPS The End of Year Trips were a glorious opportunity for pupils in the Third, Fourth and Lower Sixth Forms to celebrate the end of the academic year, have fun and experience new and challenging activities. The pupils returned with rave reviews about their experiences. The Third Form completed their Duke of Edinburgh expedition in summer sun, as they tramped their way around the stunning Dorset hills and coastline. Getting lost and having to problem solve was very much part of the adventure. Following the two-day hike the pupils enjoyed stone-baked sourdough pizzas and outside games at their campsite, before a day relaxing at a lido in Street. The Fourth Form adventured their way around the Brecon Beacons. Highlights included canoeing on the river Wye, a gorge adventure scrambling over rocks and waterfalls, and facing their fear of heights on the high ropes. There was also plenty of time to enjoy one another’s company in the verdant grounds of the Baskerville Hall Hotel. The teachers were delighted with the enthusiasm, positivity and courage the pupils showed. The Lower Sixth were blessed with benign conditions for the camping component of their trip to Cornwall, though there was plenty of power in the surf to challenge all but the most experienced surfers. Not a lot matches the thrill of catching your first wave, especially when you have a board under your feet and sun dancing on the water. There was plenty of time in the evenings for socialising around the campfire and on sunset strolls at Watergate Bay. On the way back, pupils stopped at a water park and adventure centre to extend the fun, thrills and laughter to the very end. The pupils are shaping into a terrific team as they prepare for their last year at Milton Abbey. I’m incredibly grateful to the staff who gave up their time to support these experiences and am very excited about the wide range of opportunities the pupils will have to stretch themselves next year. Students compete across sports and cocurricular activities for ‘Black and Gold Day’

For the penultimate day of the year, the whole school split into two teams - one wearing their black sports kit, the other in their MA gold kit. They were set a huge series of eclectic challenges - over 40 in total - and each colour had to field a team for every event, benefiting from everyone’s different skills. The day ranged from unusual sporting challenges (volleyball, rowing, croquet and more) to creating a business pitch for a new household gadget, and from baking and treasure-hunting to timed tentpitching, and even creating fashion designs from newspaper. There was an absolute buzz around school all day, culminating in a giant end-of-term BBQ together and epic tug o’war match! This will become an annual fixture for the end of the school year.
