An excellent year for participation and results

Sporting achievements were celebrated in our end-of-year assembly. There have been many triumphs this year - from brilliant team results, to individuals finding a sport they love for the first time.

To reflect on just a few highlights: our 1st XI football team came second in the national Society of Heads Cup after an exceptional performance across the year, our XI cricketers had an incredibly strong year, winning over 80% of their games (including against adult teams and much larger schools), we introduced our first girls’ rugby team, which had an amazing take-up by girls wanting to try something new, our swimming team completed a second annual 24-hour open water challenge, and the Road Cycling Team - including their first female cyclist - rode 198km over 48 hours in the last week of term.

In line with the school’s ethos of encouragement and involvement for all, perhaps the most impressive feat is that 95% of pupils represented the school in a competitive sports match this year. And - bearing in mind this wide participation rate and that we often face much bigger schools - our teams won or drew more than half the 180 fixtures played this year. Well done to everyone who played their part!

Black and Gold Day caps off final weekend

On the last Sunday of the school year, we held our second annual ‘Black and Gold Day’, which is now a firm favourite for the pupils who are at school for the late part of this Summer Term.

Everyone split into mixed year-group teams, donning either their black or gold MA kit, to take on a series of unusual sports and co-curricular challenges. This year’s events included croquet, boules, a photo treasure hunt, CCF survival games, and traditional sports day races.

Throughout the day, pupils received raffle tickets for their performance, sporting spirit, leadership and teamwork. The event was capped off with the infamous tug’o’war, before everyone enjoyed a BBQ together and the raffle was drawn for pupils to win a range of prizes from sweet treats to gift vouchers.
