In 2022, Milwaukee’s Alverno College faculty, in a forward-thinking initiative, established a new major fully focused on its local community in an effort to educate students to be the leaders of tomorrow’s social change. The Community Engagement & Activism (CENA) program prepares students to be lifelong engaged members of their communities. Rooted in political science, this multidisciplinary program brings together classes on political structures, social issues and practical skills students will need for a life of activism. What differentiates this program at Alverno from others is that Milwaukee will be the student’s classroom with service-learning projects, field placements, internships and other opportunities designed to give students real-world, hands-on applicable experience. This major exemplifies Alverno College's mission of intentionally creating an inclusive community that engages students in active and collaborative learning projects, fostering academic excellence and driving passion for community change.

We value empathy and curiosity, and embrace the hard work it takes to make a positive, lasting impact for all who experience our work. HGA was founded in 1953 on the belief that diverse perspectives –primarily of different disciplines – are integral to great design. As a firm committed to learning and growing, our definition of diversity has evolved and is inspiring us to build a more equitable and inclusive culture.
