OR RICK AND CHRIS BARTELT,
1984 was a monumental year. First, the couple got married. Second, they founded Bartelt Remodeling. In their early 20s, they ran the operation out of their West Milwaukee house, with Rick, whose father was a carpenter, working on remodeling jobs and Chris managing the books. The small business started out mostly remodeling garages, but the quality of Rick’s work quickly led customers to request other projects. Soon enough, it was more than one man could handle. Within a year, he and Chris were hiring a team of contractors and designers. By 1989, Bartelt had grown large enough to require a new office in West Allis. The firm became a full-service remodeling business, designing kitchens, baths and entire homes, and even building custom houses from the ground up. In 2009, Rick and Chris moved the business to its current Delafield location, and in 2012 their daughter Amanda joined the growing team.
“I’m so proud of the legacy my parents have built in this industry,” Amanda says. “They built something special here. We have clients come back year after year, and now we even have our clients’ children coming to Bartelt for their renovations. My dad and his team take care in not only their craft but also their relationships with homeowners. I feel so lucky to be part of this.” This year, Bartelt is celebrating a milestone 40 years in business. It remains a leading remodeling firm in Wisconsin, well known for crafting classic looks that stand the test of time. Bartelt has a team of designers and experts, as well as a wide network of trusted trade partners who help ensure every project is timely and exceptional. Recently, Rick and Chris have also launched two other businesses: Windhall Hill Custom Cabinetry, and Y.E.S. Electric, which further expand the services they offer homeowners. “The majority of our customers now are repeat and referral,” Rick says. “That’s because we take good care of them – it’s how we’ve developed the reputation we have. It’s a wonderful thing to look back and see that.” ◆
