Seven destinations for a escape
Lake Noquebay
This Northwoods escape, just outside the village of Crivitz, is a secluded destination, ideal for a weekend of relaxation. Bring your own boat or stop by Popp’s Resort and rent one for a day on the water. Time your visit with a performance by the Ski Cats, a waterskiing team that puts on acrobatic displays on the lake each summer. Then pull up to Timberline Resort Bar & Grill, which has boat parking at its shoreline location, and enjoy a burger or a much-lauded Friday fish fry. Once you’re back on shore, there’s more outdoor adventure to be had
around Marinette County. Download a self-guided Waterfall Tour map on marinettecounty.com , and for a $5 day pass, tour 15 different waterfalls across the county. After a weekend at the lake, no one would blame you for wanting to stay longer. A new development, Lake Noquebay Shores (starckre.com), has just opened 16 plots of land around the lake, 12 of which are directly on the water. Now for sale, they’re the only lakefront lots available, so if you want to turn a weekend getaway into something a bit more permanent, this is your chance.

Green Bay
The land of Lambeau is a great destination regardless of whether the Packers are playing, with trendy restaurants, unique breweries, plentiful outdoor adventures and more. Cedar & Sage Grill House is serving up local freshwater fish, meat, produce and dairy sourced from the area and cooked up in inventive style. The restaurant’s beer garden is opening again this spring so you can enjoy a meal in the sun. For some drinks, head to local craft brewer Zambaldi Beer ’s taproom, or to Captain’s Walk Winery, a spot on the Fox River that’s taking the “snobbery out of wine,” while still delivering the delicious flavor. Enjoy a tasting on the scenic porch, along with a plate of chocolate truffles, crackers and Wisconsin cheeses. If all the food and drink have you full, Wequiock Falls Park is the place to go to walk it off, with scenic views and secluded coves. And last but not least, take an afternoon to learn more about northeastern Wisconsin at the Neville Public Museum, a cultural institution that has been putting on exhibits in Green Bay since 1915. greenbay.com

Elkhart Lake
The greatest attraction of the summer is right in the name, Elkhart Lake. “The lake is the gem of our village and attracts visitors from all over the world,” says Kathleen Eickhoff, director of Elkhart Lake Tourism. Experience the crystal-clear lake water by kayak, pontoon boat, SUP, paddle boat or even a hydro-bike. The Osthoff Resort offers watersport and recreation rentals all summer long. After a day of adventure, feed your appetite at one of the delicious restaurants that surround the lake. Enjoy a few tropical drinks on a patio overlooking the lake at
The Shore Club’s Tiki Bar or on the Osthoff’s Lake Deck . If you are looking for more of a landlocked activity, head to Road America, the legendary motorsport known as America’s National Park of Speed. It will be hosting races all summer, and afterward you can get closer to the action with weekly “sunset cruises.” A ticket will give you the opportunity to drive your car or motorcycle through the scenic wooded course while enjoying the beautiful sunsets that begin the lively nightlife in this lakeside community. elkhartlake.com
Beloit
Just over an hour from Milwau kee, Beloit is the ideal distance for an easy day trip. Beloit’s downtown has boomed in the
past few years and is now full of places to visit. Try Merrill & Houston’s Steak Joint for a handmade cocktail and a cut of prime steak right on the banks of the Rock River.
For shopping, stop by the nearby Pizzazz Gift and Apparel Boutique , with its wide selection of women’s denim, sweaters, cashmere and more. And be sure to try a

Plus, catch a Beloit Sky Carp (the High-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins) baseball game as they play their first full season in the new downtown ABC Supply Stadium, which opened last year. The team plays 66 home games from April through September. Check out the next wave of MLB players before they make it to the big leagues. If you want to turn a day into a weekend, consider staying at the Hotel Goodwin, a boutique that also houses the modern Italian restaurant, Velvet Buffalo, and a rooftop bar offering a view of the entire downtown. visitbeloit.com
