The Future of Finance

After over three decades in business, The Burish Group is eyeing expansion.

Jason Maas was only 19 when he got his start at The Burish Group as an intern.

Studying finance at UW-Madison, he met Andy Burish, the founder and leader of the wealth management team, and quickly realized that he wanted to be a permanent part of the dynamic and burgeoning group.

After graduation, he became a financial advisor with The Burish Group and has remained on the team ever since, rising through the ranks.

“I was incredibly fortunate to be introduced to Andy while I was still in college,” says Maas. “Andy is a master businessman, a strategic thinker, and he has achieved the pinnacle of success in this extremely competitive financial industry. He’s done that with natural talent and a knack for looking at things differently. I’ve had the privilege to see him in action, and to learn extensively from him, and that is an education beyond compare.”

Now, nearly 30 years later, Maas is The Burish Group’s Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Director – and he is preparing to lead the team in the future.

him and his vision for the future of The Burish Group.”

Burish, who will continue to work with the group, is planning to step back from the top position in the next five years, with Maas stepping up.

“Jason’s an honest, hard-working, committed guy, and he’s been a loyal part of the team for 30 years,” Burish says. “He’s incredibly smart. If I’m the coach of this team, he’s the star. That’s why I chose him to take over. And, most importantly, I trust

Burish founded The Burish Group as a wealth management team within global financial firm UBS in 1991, after working as a financial advisor at UBS’ Madison office for eight years.

Burish’s impressive success as an individual advisor translated to leading his new team, which grew quickly.

In the 33 years since its founding, the wealth management group has become a powerhouse. What started as a team of only four in the early ’90s now encompasses over 50 people handling

over $5.5 billion in total assets.

“We offer our clients consistency,” Burish says. “We have good, consistent results that achieve good outcomes for our clients, and I think that’s one important reason so many have stayed with us over the years. We have received – and continue to receive – many accolades for our work.”

Burish and Maas have also fostered a talent pipeline, with a robust internship program that provides opportunities for young professionals to develop financial skills and advance within the team.

“Our success continues to attract great talent to the team,” Maas says.

The group has also expanded outside of its flagship Madison location, opening offices in both Milwaukee and Chicago over the past 15 years.

Burish and Maas both plan to continue that growth. In the next decade or so, they hope to build the team into a national wealth management group, with more offices opening across the country.

“With the size and resources of UBS behind us, we can deliver in-depth services and analysis at a very attractive cost to clients,” Maas says. “We want to share these opportunities and efficiencies with clients around the country with new locations. And every year, we’re working to improve and grow and become the absolute best we can be. We have the scale to provide the most competitive options and cutting-edge resources for our clients, while also having the stability of our core team.”

Burish attributes much of his group’s success to its stability – Maas may be the only team member who’s been there since he was 19, but he’s

far from the only longtime advisor at The Burish Group. The group has many loyal veterans who’ve spent more than 20 years with them.

“My big goal for the future is for The Burish Group to become national in stature,” Burish says. “And for Jason, as a leader now, to develop his own strong team under him that will be

there to continue that growth for many years.” ◆
