A Q&A WITH DIRECTORS THERI DEJOODE, ERICA GRABCZYK, CRYSTAL HERIC AND PATTI DAVENPORT
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR MEN?
Erica Grabczyk: If you don’t like your haircut, find a barbette. It is not your fault. Most guys blame themselves for bad hair. Most women blame their hairdresser.
TELL ME ABOUT YOUR CLIENTS.
Theri DeJoode: Professional, humorous men searching for quality.
ARE YOU TRAINED IN CUTTING HAIR A CERTAIN WAY? NATALJA HOWELL /
Hairstylist and Nail Technician, Well Spa + Salon, Pfister Hotel, 424 E. Wisconsin Ave., 414-227-9207 Creating an updated look by making slight changes allows women to instantly feel better when they walk out our door.
Theri DeJoode: Groom for Men are international educators for American Crew. We actually wrote part of their cutting program at Groom. As Technical Director for American Crew, I work at Groom and all over the world teaching stylists how to cut
quality men’s haircuts.
HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR SALON EDUCATION FRESH?
Crystal Heric: At Groom, we are constantly bringing our girls the latest techniques to push themselves to be the best that they can be. Patti Davenport: I work as a freelance educator for American Crew. I get a chance to teach and inspire other cosmetologists and barbers across the country by teaching men’s haircutting and shaving. I am also working toward my expert status with Dermalogica.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST BEAUTY NO-NO?
Crystal Heric: Never clean up your own neckline!

We offer a variety of specialty services along with hair, skin and nail services. Alyssa Herbst leads our hair extensions program, specializing in three types of hair enhancements that add body and volume through hair thickening. We also do a lot of wedding parties – from engagement to the big day.
Hair color makes the design of a haircut stand out. We are using shine lines to accentuate strong features in haircuts and color blending or zig-zag patterns for soft transitional styles.
WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF HAVING YOUR SECOND LOCATION IN MEQUON?
Co-owner Rachel Kernan and I originally started out in Mequon 23 years ago, and we found we were able to bring our creative vision to the North Shore community as well as Cedarburg. We believe that individual success is directly tied to a supportive team mentality, and we have an amazing team.

We have been in East Towne Square Mall in Mequon since 1990. In 2001, we were able to add an additional 2,500 square feet to our existing salon to offer our guests a tranquil setting to enjoy a wide range of relaxing skin and massage services. Our guests love that fact that they can customize their facials or massages to get exactly what they need. Whether it’s a deep tissue or relaxation massage, or if they have a specific skin care issue they want to address, our technicians work one-on-one to make sure each guest is happy with the end result.
